I wanted a sporty car. I have owned around 8 cars in one year, and that was all leading up to something RWD and sporty, so my father in his miata will have someone to go to deals gap with. Turned out, that the RX-7 was perfect for me. I bought a car, fixed it, sold for a profit, then repeated, until I had enough for an rx. Never looked back, and dont plan to. I drove a convert 2nd gen, and it just wasnt the same. Now this is going to be my little auto-xer and weekend get-a-way car.

Oh, and the fact that these cars are the epitome of sex on wheels.

I love my FB mainly because very few people have it and its awesome to get the looks I do.

the only drawbacks is aftermarket parts for the FB

well, after destroying a 93 sentra by repeatedly powersliding/street racing it i needed a new vehicle.

i was just starting to get in to mechanics at this point and so i made myself a list of criteria for a new car based on what i had learned from the sentra and here it is:

1.) cheap to obtain ( college student with part time job living on my own at the time )
2.)NO COMPUTER
3.) manual
4.) RWD ( was tired of fighting understeer so i thought i would try some snap oversteer )
5.) decent power to weight ratio ( the sentra felt really heavy in turns even though it took them like a champ )
6.) enough room under the hood to work/modify
7.) old enough that eventually it will be smog exempt here in CA ( didnt know the date got frozen )

the reasons i chose the first gen after looking at the criteria list is pretty self explanitory. i wasnt really a fan of the body style but it grew on me. i knew nothing about the rotary engine at the time ( matter of fact i thought it was a normal ( boinger ) engine when i first looked at it.

my favorite things about it are the rotary whine, the rarity in which i see them on the road ( although that has been changing lately ) , the ungodly handling and agility of the old beast, the interior is rather spacious ( s model ) while the body would lead you to believe otherwise, and the looks that i get from ricers in their civics when i downshift and blow past them on the streets, extremely easy to work on, and it will handle a lot of abuse before bricking in your mouth

the bad? well.....parts availability/price, cop magnet ( for me anyways, i think previous owner(s) caused a lot of trouble with it before i got it because all legit and everything i still get pulled over about 2 times a month ) the wondersteering provided to us by the factory front end at 70+mph, and of course the ever continuing " is that a 280z/vette/porsche/300z etc..."

I also bought mine new back in 1982. My Olds 442 was giving up and I always wanted a sports car because my sister had owned an Austin Healy 100-6 and I really like it. I was at first a little leery of the rotary engine, but loved the styling because it had a totally unique look. I finally went for it and I'm glad I did. There would be few cars on the planet that would run and handle like the RX. Winding roads are a real treat. I've had it 25 years this month with no major problems (outside of having a clutch plate replaced). To me, the real flavor of the RX was gone when they changed the body style in 86.
