Who's got a WRX Scoop on a 1st gen pic?
Cant say Ive ever seen one.....in addition to the fact that the TII hood scoop is more popular and appropriate,I cant imagine anyone WANTING to put a WRX scoop on an RX.
Sorry if any of this sounds like opinion, but the WRX and STi hood scoops are functional. They exist and look the way they do because they have to cool an IC that is in a fundamentally bad position. If the car was N/A or had a factory front mount IC,then I couldnt see Subaru putting such an obvious, gaudy scoop on the hood. That said, unless you are running a topmount IC on your car,why would you even want a WRX hood scoop?

if you guys must know, I was considering using one for fresh air intake. I have a throttle body injection setup that I want to duct air to. I figured it might be a bit gaudy, but I want to see if anyone else has tried. I may end up going with a NACA style intake instead:

As the owner of both ('80 SA + 05 STI), I'd say go NACA.
I did a chop job install of a 300ZX turbo NACA duct on my SA track rat. It supposedly feeds air right into my weber filter although since it's not completely flush it might not. I just thought it would look kinda cool and psyche out the competitors
Where did you find the carbon fiber duct you posted?

Hey-if you get that hood from Fibremaz, let us know if there's fiberglass in it. He won't answer any questions about it despite being asked repeatedly. I think I'm going to try and make my own once I get moved and settled in, but I won't have time before that. Good luck with your project...
It is going to be pretty important to have a soft foam seal between the hood scoop and your air box to make it really work right. It's not an easy job to get a good seal against a Mazda hood, because the Mazda hood has a compound curve in it; it curves front to back, and also curves left to right. I had to use a small hood scoop on my road racer, because my big Weber sticks up pretty tall. It took me awhile to hand form an aluminum airbox to match the hood contours. I use a piece of 1" thick soft foam around the lip of my airbox, to seal between the airbox and the hood.

.. Um, ya you can do that, Some people have done it, but haven't seen it done with a naca duct..that would be tight though.
