who sells the custom peice between taillights
No one is. They were made back in the 80's. Every so often you will come across one on ebay.
I was going to make them. I went to the wrecking yards and found that the early Honda Crx models have a similar piece that could be used for this purpose with only slight trimming.

I thought akiratdk was working on those quite awhile ago, but I can't find the thread. Maybe it was deleted. I remember Wacky having a prototype. I thought that Atkins Dan was involved too (atleast in the start of the thread). But anyway, I don't think that it ever got to the point where he was selling them (I could be wrong). But Doc is correct. I don't believe that anyone is currently making them.

EDIT: I just remembered, the CRX panel had 4 bolts holding it on.

Good god, if you find one of these in the junkyard, buy it and put it on ebay.

There are 2 old versions of this filler piece, one for SAs, one for FBs. Some did have variations in the lettering. I have both an SA and an FB one atm. Rotary Engineering used to sell these out of thier catalogue. These are NLA new. The upper one is for the SAs, lower for FBs. I offered to make the FB ones over a year ago, got little response until my car was was posted in akiratdk's thread. He took over from there with his own version.
I can replicate the reflector part, no problem. The upper finisher piece is another story. It appears to be a vacuum molded fiberglass piece. I might be able to replicate that part, but I doubt it would be cheap.

His whole thread (and several others of his) were moved to the
violations section (only mods can access it) because he was selling
some stuff on the forum without being an authorized vendor.
I PM'ed him a couple of times asking him to get approved as a
Vendor so nobody would harass him about the laser-cut goods he
was working on.
I think he ended up getting scared off by the forum. He's apparently
out of the country a significant amount of time as well. As far as I know,
the rear center piece was never finalized, and thus, never for sale.
(He did sell other stuff for FD's)
Maybe you'd like to take a stab at making them, since Akiratdk seems to be M.I.A. anyway.
I see. They did look very nice. It is too bad that they never got to the point where they were selling. I am sure a lot of people would have liked to get one. I does seem that Akiratdk is out of the country quite a bit. The difficult thing will be to find someone with the laser cutting equipment if someone goes the same route as Akiratdk. Although, they could be made more like the '80s piece with the reflective material. Not sure of the best way to add the "RX-7", though.
What about making them in different colors? Or some sort of shade, because I don't think that a bright reflective red panel would look that great on darker colored FB's.

Well, the Akiratdk version was like that. Kind of a reverse of the '80s version. It was like a charcoal gray or black with the 'RX-7' etched out (the lettering was red). Looked real nice. You could have installed a light behind the 'RX-7' part so it would light up when you hit the brakes. Too bad you can't see the thread.
some mods make thing so strict. but i do understand why they do some of the things they do. i wish they would have helped him get vendor status so i could do that stuff for everyone. that was a great product that is now lost because of that.
