who has been successfully running nitrous for some time?

ive done some searches, and found lots of people going off about what will and wont be reliable, and at least a couple of horror stories. but nobody has written about long term experience.

I want to know if anyone has bee running a properly installed ~60 shot of wet(or dry even) for a number of years, or thousands of kilometres.

i'm talking about street driven cars, not mega-ported open-headered just-a-few-track-runs-per-season cars.

please specify your engine type and setup.

-thanks!

The guy who wrote this knows all there is to know about nitrous. I know he uses like a 400hp shot. If you're looking for a long thread to read, read this one.

i have read mthat thread. good info, but i kind of doubt he's using a 400hp shot on a stock ported daily driver.

Why do you doubt it?

that sounds a bit high to me as well.. i donot think that the stock seals could handle a 400 shot.

My bad, its not 400, its 280. But his car is nowhere near stock. Here are his mods at the time he wrote the thing.

My system:
I have built a very extensive system for nitrous oxide injection on my 1990 TII. My mods are as follows:
- 7000 miles on Street Ported Rebuild
- electric fan
- electric water pump
- sumped stock tank to 100- micron stainless steel filter to 1200 hp aeromotive fuel pump into 10-micron paper filter into braided feed lines into Y splitter into rails, Y splitters off of each fuel rail to aeromotive fuel pressure regulator, with a base setting of 40 psi. Each Y-splitter off the fuel rails feeds one nitrous solenoid.
- Completely mirror polished and ported intake manifolds, mirror polished and Modded Throttle body, polished intake elbow, all emissions removed.
- no crank driven accessories save alternator
- MSD 7-AL3 CDI box with addition 2-stage retard on leading coil, 5 degrees + 8 degrees.
- intake, 3” downpipe and midpipe to horrible stock catback.
- Stock turbo with massive ported S5 wastegate.
- Boost gauge, fuel pressure gauge, nitrous pressure gauge
- 15 lb nitrous bottles with a remote bottle valve into a 6-AN feed line to a purge valve, purging excess vapour out through the stock intercooler, nitrous and fuel filters.
- First stage: Single fogger, currently jetted to 120 horsepower, in intake elbow.
- Second stage: Direct port, one fogger per intake runner, each jetted for 40 horspower.
- Bottle heater, separate circuits per stage wired to covered toggles mounted in front of the shifter (where the ash tray used to be).
- Combined stages: 280 horsepower. However, using the fuel jettings to compensate for added boost from the turbo creeping. I’m sure its running rich… Its time for an upgrade.

yeah, so im thinking more along the lines of 170hp combined... 105hp stock+rb exahust+50 shot?

at any rate, what i would like to hear about real life experiences with mild shots on stock engines over time.

Supercharger baby . I seriously am considering SC rather than TC. I think its gonna be "easier" for me to accomplish. I figure theres less fabircation work (not that Im scared of it, Its just more money) involved, like downpipes, exhaust, IC duct work, IC mounting, sealing the carb bonnet, etc. I can "bolt on" a Camden SC ad new carb with upgraded fuel system of course, and mainly be ready to rock, ya know?

that is the way that you are supposed to do it.. if you are squeezing all the time, then you should have gone with forced induction...

a 60 wet setup is totally safe.
If your engine is in good condition and has a good exhaust and intake, then go for it.

there is a kit made by NOS that would work well. Do you have a SE, they have jets that fit under your injector. I think they have a 60 shot. They even have a bolt on kit for the carbed 12a but good luck finding one, i dont think there made anymore.

if you are worried, go to a reputable shop and ask them to set up a RPM activated wet system.

I drove a civic with one of these and it kicked ***.

you flipped a switch and at WOT when you hit 4500 the nitrous would come on. No button to push. fast as hell.
simple to use.
