Who else hates squeeky alternators.

Dag blast it, it finally happend.

Yes, my alternator finally decided to start squeeking it's *** off. My car was idling so good, not all i need is to hear the damn ALTERNATOR!

Are there any aftermarket alternators, that use less hp to make more volts, and maybe even prevent squeeking? Bosch unit?

Oh yeah, and wait for some pics of my car, ooooo sweet! Too bad I don't have the licence plate bracket i installed today on it!!!

The squeeking is most likely coming from the belt. You can get an alternator that'll put out more current, but who needs that?

Belt dressing? They sell that stuff in little cans, like WD-40... Does it work?

Well it's not necessarily the belt. It could just as easily be a worn bearing in the alternator. These can be replaced.

why wouldn't you want more power? Even if your not running any high drain accessories it increases the reliability and effeciency of you system. If you want to put a big system and/or fog lights then a bigger alt is a must.

I wishes i got one that puts out the same amount of current yet uses les hp. You know, like every other upgrade you can do to your car

But i guess i can put a bigger alternator on...but all i need is neon, a system that puts out 1000 watts and airport landing lights bolted to my roof.

Either just keep sprayin belt dressing on it every few days, or bite the bullet and put a fresh belt on there, and clean up the alt and main pulley with simple green and a toothbrush first to get all the old rubber off.

A 89-91 Turbo ][ alternator puts out 85 amps (I think that's right). I had to redo the spacer and use washers instead of one large spacer but it did the job. The little pigtail wire connector doesn't fit in this alt right so I just ran my own wires inbetween the pigtail and the alt.

86-88 alts put out slightly less, 75 amps I believe.

3rd gen alts put out 125amps but cost a lot more!

Our wimpy 1st gen also only put out 55 amps.

If you're just looking to get it fixed, then buy a replacement. Check the belt first, it's the least expensive fix aside from a new alternator.
