Where to go with rear end?

In the past I put some adjustable suspension components on my '83 GSL including height adjusters. I lowered it about as far as it would go. I bought the car as a roller and so when the engine was completed and I started driving it I wasn't aware that the noise in the back was caused by the ride height adjustment. I probably put 100-150 or so miles on it as the noise got worse and worse until I realized what was going on.

I have since raised the suspension back to stock height, but I'm guessing the pinion and ring gear are trashed because it still sounds like a machine shop every time I'm on the throttle.

So, what would be the best way to go from here? Replace the ring/pinion? Get replacement GSL rear end? Switch to GSL-SE? Go completely different and get a rear from another car model or manufacturer?

Getting a new rear wouldn't be too terrible since the LSD is already worn out anyway. But, ultimately, I don't know too much about rear ends so any thoughts would be appreciated.

I will check the driveshaft for frozen ujoints and bent axle? Despite gsl-se has 4.10, the lsd is weak as well as the ring's teeth so i highly recommend a gsl diffy. Besides, the difference between a 4.10 and 3.90 is barely noticeable.

So it would probably be best to keep the same housing and just replace the LSD and ring/pinion with standard GSL parts??

You could buy just a third member or try to find a complete axle. Its likely bearing issues and you could try to rebuild your current axle with new bearings. There are also some different options for third members (MX5 for example) that fit but you would have to research that as I'm not too up on it. If you intend to drop the car back down you need to make your suspension adjustable enough to set the pinion angle correctly.

I've been debating this for a couple years as it is. I've been between welding, GSL parts, or selling my organs for the ones that Mazdatrix sells. What parts would we need to just swap from an open diff GS to GSL?
