Question Where to get a good paint job

I am going to get my SE painted very soon, but I have no idea where to take it. Does anybody know a good place to get paint in minnesota? I dont want to spend a ton of money, but I want it to look really nice.

Yea that the trade off though, price for quality Lotus00. If you think about though, your really not paying for the paint and supplies, it's mostly if not all the prep and time they put into it BEFORE they paint, so you could yourself sand and whatnot. I have yet to find anyone local or possibly someone that does this in their spare time or as a hobby in MN. If you do, tell me.

Ive always wondered that. I can do body repair pretty good surprisingly. I know how to sand and bondo and all that ****. So if i do that will it be alot cheaper for a professional tro paint it for me, or will they say they have to prep it?

I was thinking about doing some prep myself, my friend just painted his jeep so at least I know someone that knows what they are doing

I have about $1500 to work with right now, but if it ends up costing more its not the end of the world. I would rather wait and pay more for a really good paint job than waste money on a crappy one.

One of my friends said maco does a good job if you dont get the cheapie job. I dont think I should trust him on that, though. I have a hard time putting "maco" and "quality" in the same sentence...

lol yeah i havent heard many good things about maco, but I would also think that if you did most of the prep work whoever you had painting it may just do a quick "once over" just to make sure its all kosher. That would still be saving a ton of money. I mean if you spend 10 hours, say, on sanding and prepping it then take 10x45 dollars per hour and thats how much you save.

I'm getting ready to paint my '84 GS (with my bro-in-law) soon. Actually just finished up roughing out the body work and now getting ready for the primer and paint spackling.
I priced the paint at a local paint supply place at $55 a quart (K8 Tornado Silver with a 1 to 1 paint/reducer ratio) and don't anticipate buying more than 2 quarts. We'll be doing the primer, sealer, base coat, clear coat thing and I don't anticipate spending more than $700 total (including new paint gun, bondo, reducer, etc). DIY man...all the way if you've got somebody helping that knows what they are doing! Save that other $800 for performance upgrades At the very least, do as IanS says and do the prep work.

I know how to painy cars and do all the prep work, ive done it ith my cousin for an entire summer, but the thing is if i do it myself therres no gurantee, if i **** it up, im fucked. Also 700 for a paintjob is running very very cheap. I would estimate closer to a grand. Clearcoat, and a new paintgun isnt exactly cheap.

well I dont to do any painting myself, I know I would mess that up. I am going to be changing the color of the car, I know I have to take everything out from under the hood (but I can leave the engine, right?).

you could do it less than 1k. its simple. painting is easy. prep it yourself, thats what is so tedious. painting is the quick part. the rx7 is a small car and you dont need much paint or primer or clear. i am getting ready to paint my car soon. i went on e-bay and there is this guy that sells paint by the gallons. $35 a gallon. good paint too. they also sell primer and clear. everything to do it right. i bet if you got the suplies and had the car ready for paint you would be better off. find someone local to paint it that is reasonably fair. i bought all my suplies stuff for less than $400.and that included a gravity feed paint gun. but i know how to paint. that body class in high school really helped me a lot.

I knew I should have taken that class...

I want to paint it a metallic bright green, like the one in my avatar. Will that paint cost more because its metallic? (I am assuming so)
