there's a fuse under the dash for the fuel pump.. and ya could just take the wires out the distributor cap to get rid of the spark..

if you don't choose to remove the rotor, you can just pull each wire from the coil. two wires, two seconds.

There was just an extensive write up on how to do a Compression Check on 1st Gens!!!
Just do a search for Compression Check on the 1st Gen Site and q's have been answered back to 2001. I think the other 5000 post before that was deleted because of space needed on this site.

This subject has been covered over and over threw out the years and nothing has changed.

FAQ or Search Engine will give you the same answers.

Not tryin to be No-It-All but sometimes the NewBee's and Not So might get confused with all the Answers and Questions that may come up because we don't know there exact set-up like this Question ie 12A w/Carbed and read the rest of the Q.

Start with the Search Engine 1st and go from there cause 9-10 times you will find the Quest of your Adventure before coming to this Point.

Have Fun Going Round & Round!

Thumbs up

Fogot to add;
Yes just pull the Engine fuse and that will kill the Fuel Pump along with the Spark Plug Wires. As above suggested
I think from what I have read in the FAQ's is that you want to run the engine till it runs out of fuel ie Engine Quits after you pull the Fuse, to get all the Excess Fuel out of the System. Then you will get the Most Accurate Readings 3_Woooosh's.

And don't forget to keep the throttle wide open. Typical mistake.
