'lo, all. I've just become the owner of my first RX7, and I was wondering what the bolt pattern for the wheels is on an '85 base model. I've searched the forum, and I've seen people saying both that all FBs except the GSL-SE are 4x110 and that all '84 and '85s are 4x114.3/4x4.5. Is my car 4x114.3, and, if not, how hard is it to swap for GSL-SE hubs?
Only the GSL-SE is 4x114.3. All other 12A models are 4X110. So you have 4x110 unless someone already did the swap. There are a few choices for wheels in 4x110, but not much available. Also, you could consider custom made wheels.
For the swap, everything will bolt up..so that is the good part. However, you will need the full SE rear (brakes, axles, etc.) and the front caliper, rotors, etc. Many times people will get an SE parts car and just swap the whole suspension over. Do a search for details on the swap.

Really, maybe I should just go ahead and measure it. The car has a GSL-SE limited slip and rear gear in it, although it has the base speedo gear so it reads high. Whatever, the guy I'm getting it from has what should be the right gear, so will have to put it in. Would the base axles/rear end housing even work with the SE diff and LSD?
Because I can't edit my own posts: I'm assuming it's a GSL-SE rear gear, at least. I don't know the exact ratio in the car, but when going 65, the gauge reads around 80. I don't know if the switch from a 3.90 to a 4.07 will cause that much of a difference, but I can guess. As an addition to my post above this, the car has disks on the rear, so it probably has the normal rear.
There's no way the SE 4.10 gears can make that big of a change in the speedo, and yes, you can swap any of the S3 diffs around in any other S3 rear end. With the speedo being that far off, it sounds like your diff has 4.88 gears. Assuming the tires are still stock size.
What is your rear tire size? I'm running 245/50/15 on my rears and the speedo isn't that far off, percentage wise. A speedo reading of 78 mph yields an 87 mph actual. I kept the warning ticket for proof, lol. Either you're running very short gears or very narrow diameter tires. My difference is around 11.5% yours' is around 23%.

Should be stock 185/70R13s. I will check and see for sure.
EDIT: 205/60R13s. Would I be able to use GSL-SE axles in the housing, so I don't have to drop it and put the SE in?
