Wheel Bearings...

So I beleive my wheel bearings are going out on my right rear wheel. Its started making roaring and squeaking noises..and it isnt stopping.

How hard of a job is this? Can I do it myself? If not how much am i looking at spending?

the job isnt that hard if you know basic mechanical stuff.. but if not a shop like mine would charge you probably less than $200

Remove the wheel, parking brake cable, caliper, caliper mount, and rotor.

You'll probably need a slidehammer to pull the axle (though some improvise) Once the axle is out, pull the axle seal and replace it (They're usually trashed by now) Take the entire axle to a machine shop with a press. They'll have to press on the new bearing.

Easy to do, about 20 minutes to have the axle out, then its up the someone with a press.

I'd say a bit more than 20 minutes, particularly with drum brakes.

Still, pretty straightforward to get the axle out.

if your positive that it's your wheel bearings a good way to test is to drive it down a straight road and throw the wheel from side to side. Preferably a road without other people on it. The load of the car will shift from one wheel (and bearing) to another and the goofy sounds your hearing should stop until the weight bears down on the bearing again.

just make sure when you remove your axle that you remove your brake lines from the back of the dust plate before you remove the dust plate itself. You need the support from it.

You have 2 different issues here.
Axle bearings can make a roaring noise when they go out but usually not a squeaking noise. One way to check for a Axle bearing that is going out is to drive the vehicle in a straight line and jerk the steering wheel abrubtly to the left or right. If the noise goes away for a second then you have a bad axle bearing on one side. What you are doing is transferring the load off one axle to the other.
Now a constant roaring noise could be the diff making noise.
Now i take it when you are referring to the noise "And it is not stopping", you are referring to the noise and not the stopping of the vehicle.
Yes it is more than a 30 minute job for someone on there first attempt. You usually need a axle puller or turning the rotor around backwards and threading a couple of studs back into the axle to pull back and forth to release the axle.
Rear wheel bearing depending on where you get oneis around the $35-$45 range
and the seal another $6-$8. As far as the machine shop for pressing figure $20.00
to $35.00 depending on the place.
