wheel adaptor question AGAIN

i haven't got a solid answer on this question yet.

i have an 85 gsl

i have 17x7 114.3 wheels with a +40 offset

that means i need wheel adaptors to fit them...now i know this setup will work on a gsl-se, but what about the gsl. when i install the adaptors, this will make the wheels stick out further. will they rub?

anyone have this exact setup? what thickness wheel adaptors should i look for?

adaptors

Go to elnene7's thread for conversion from 4 to 5 bolt, then find davidgrimes link that is posted for adaptors. e-mail them and you will get a proper response on monday. The guy only specializes in adaptors. rx7doctor

Nick, I don't know. When I ordered my adapters, I had measured carefully my clearances and my offset for the hieght and width of the tire and wheel they I planned to use.

Example: If 205/45r17 is same height as what you've got on there now (???), and your new wheels have the same offset, then just do the math and measure to see what coming out an inch will do to you. If I did have your same setup, I'd still recommend you measure and calculate twice before ordering your adapters.

Not much help I know, but all I got for you

Depends on your tire size....You can't put too much tire on that 17".....that's pushing it without rolling the fenders.

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

The above is a really good calculator for tire sizing possibilities
For all practical purposes, the 205/40r17 you plan to use is THE SAME height (diameter) as the bone stock 185/70R13 or the commonly used 205/50R15.

The wheel adapter you get will be at least an inch thinck, but more likely 1 1/4" or 1 1/2". Maybe too much for a non-widebody, I suspect... not really from a rubbing standpoint as from sticking out of the wheel well too far. I also bet you're not one of those guys either.
