What's wrong with my 13b engine?

I have an '84 gsl-se w/ 96k miles. Last weekend it started smoking and burning oil like crazy. It burnt through about 4 quarts of oil in 30 miles (I wouldn't have driven that far, but I had to get back to my house). I had to pull off the highway and add oil half way. I'm not sure what's exactly wrong with the engine. Could it be an engine gasket that's gone bad?

Thanks,
Spencer

Man thats alot of oil, sounds more like a leak somewhere have you checked for leaks or is the engine actually eating it. Check you FMOC lines for leaks,, Just my 2 cents. I also have an se and I am looosing oil but it's due to a crack in my oil cooler...

4 quarts in 30 miles???

wow. yeah, that sounds like a leak to me. check the underside of the car. no matter what, i wouldn't advise driving it until you repair the problem. let us know what you find.

More than likely you lost an oil cooler hose. The smoke you are seeing is probably from burning on the exhaust.

Check your FMOC, mine had a hairline crack on the outside of the actual connector where the thread was. I did an oil change and found it bled about one or two pints just running it for a minute. Luckily my Welding instructor was nice enough to do an emergency TIG repair and now I will never worry about replacing my FMOC, at least for now...

But yeah, sounds like either a hairline crack got way bigger or you lost a hose. if it was your engine, I doubt that it would run enough to take it on a highway if its consuming that much oil. The sludge would bog it down faster than you can say Zoom-Zoom.
