Whats that noise??

Got this nosie coming from the rear end or maybe driveshaft. It clunks after I put the clutch in then change gears. Like coming up to a stop put the clutch in shift to different gear and hear a clunk in the rear end when I shift. Also have a rattle noise maybe ujoints but not quite sure what to listen for. They do have a little play in the ujoints but its been doing this noise for over a year. If its in the rearend itself would I hear it very clearly.??

Sounds like a u-joint to me, or could be your pinion and ring gear backlashing, but that would give your car a shudder when you take off if the teeth were badly worn. And yes you'll be able to hear it pretty clear.

Mine does the same 'clunk' especially when going into 5th gear, because I hold the clutch in longer since it is such a longer throw. Since mine is an 85, do you think it's the driveshaft?
