fcdrifter, Sorry if I got a little carried away. But c'mon, you cant compare the car we all know and love, to of all things a Chevette. This board is founded on Rx-7's and its what brings us together, guru and newb alike, not all of us are as smart, or as experienced. But by god we all love our cars.

And yes I suppose the Chevette HS and HSR were probably pretty quick, and w/200 hp in a Chevette chassis it probably was cabable of beating down a factory stock Rx-7. And that was probably pretty cool, I watched my buddy and his crossbred ford 302/Chevy Chevette, beat the hell out of road runners, darts, Camaros. It was pretty funny, He had his exhaust quieted really well, but it was still pretty loud. When you kick someones *** in chevette, well lets just say the look on their face tells all.

So yes the car in qeustion, was probably pretty quick. but only 400 were made, and I bet there were barely any that made it stateside. So no I dont believe in "sales" they were a direct competitor, and on the street, since there were so few what are the odds an Rx-7 and a Chevette actually raced? And what are the odds it was an HS or an HSR?

Next time, pick a slightly more common car. Not a homolageted race car, something mass produced.

And if I remember right, the 280/300ZX were what the Rx-7 aspired to beat, The Supra and the Rx-7 year for year, performance wise, were almost identicle. I've always looked at them as the big three from Japan, Supra, 300ZX, and the 7. I guess you could group the Mitsubishi Starion/Conquest in there as well as the 3000GT.

Also why is the Starion/Conquest not on the poll? it was a turbocharged four cylinder that kept pace with the big three. It was compared to the 7 in a few magazine articles as well. I have always loved the factory widebody variant the Starion had.

But anyway, if you go by the performance, Supra and the 7 hands down were the closest. Sales, maybe the 280/300ZX but thats why I group the three together.

But whatever you think, every magazine says the same thing no matter what the 7 was compared with. If this was based on fun factor alone no questions asked, the Rx-7 is top dog.

From a "competition in the consumer market" standpoint, I'm with Loki on this one.

Well I am really sorry that I was not able to satisfy EVERYONE in this poll....

The reality is that i never thought there would be this many people that were even interested in it.

For anyone who has ever done a poll you will know that it is not simple and although I did put some thought into it I guess more was required.

For those of you who thought the "F" bodies should have all been grouped together, go to a muscle car meet and tell them the T/A , Camaro, and FireBird are all the same.

TO THE MODS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PLEASE CLOSE THIS THREAD SO SOMEONE BETTER THAN ME CAN REPOST AND FIX ALL OF MY MISTAKES!

Thank You
Jay

Jay,

I thought your poll was very good and sparked a lot of interesting discussion. I feel several people learned some important things - including myself.
