Did they? I thought the LE '79 only came in black. My '79 is definately silver from the factory, as the hood sticker still has the paint code on it. Maybe the rims were swapped for the waffles sometime in the life of the car. Oh, and btw, the rims are the same size as the regular RX-7 alloys: 13x5.5.

Here's a side by side comparo.
My rim:

H1, Sparkling Black. The awesomest factory color imo, but very hard to match after you've been keyed...

my color

Hey my GSL-SE's color isn't on the list! Not surprising though, most people do not know it exsisted. It is "Royal Maroon" which is what is listed on the window sticker I have. The paint code under the hood on the firewall says "3A". My car was a late built '85 model and I think they started using that color towards the end of the '85 run of cars ??? Anyone know more about this? take care.

Thanks for the link Manntis

84 GSL-SE
Code: VG
Name: Light
Family: Beige

Not clearcoat...

I really don't know what good condition non-clearcoat paint looks like! Clearcoats should be nice and shiney right?
What about the non-clearcoat ones... They just look ... dull and flat and non-clearcoaty. Is that just how flat paint is supposed to be? Hmmmm....

Am I the only DOVE FB on this site? And no, that wasn't directed towards the war in Iraq. Go USA!
I actually think the FB looks best in white- maybe because white doesn't 'date' the car.

A beautiful shade of yellow! I like it along with the whale tale. Makes my car look very sleek, and sticks out like a danger sign.

Could use a repaint... don't they all?

RH Sunrise Red.. I'm going to repaint in the next 12 months and I'll probably keep it the same.

I've got red/maroon inside so matching another colour would be interesting. Any suggestions??

Gump,

You are correct. Not only did Mazda throw in some new colors late model year 85, they also began to paint the side mirrors the color of the car on these new colors.

My color L6.

T9 Desert is on my 1985 GSL. Still has the original paint too!

I think I'm the only one here with this colour.... Anyone know how rare this colour is? Personally I've grown to love it... Was not crazy for it at first but now I would repaint it the same colour if I had to redo the car.

My '85 GS was silver, then when it got really rusty I sanded it down and spray painted it dark green

My '83 Limited Edition which I just picked up today is Chateau, IMO the sexiest color the 1st gen ever came in

I have a Desert Brown 85 GS! And just like you, I wasn't thrilled about it at first and it has now grown on me and when I do get it repainted it'll stay the same.
