What is this valve for *PIC*
This 1st gen 85 GSL-SE (fuel injected 13B), like to run fine at idle and die at higher rpms. The exhost is clean and the spark plugs are all fireing correct and timed correctly. In fact, they keep fireing even as the engine is dieing (so it's either not getting air or fuel).
In anycase, right as the car died, a small "hoot" sound escapes from this valve and will do so everytime the car is about to stall. It's gotten progressivly worse as I've tried to work on the car and the car will no longer even make it up the hill to my house. Any help is appericated.
The picture is taken from the passenger side and the valve that's making the sound sits right below the charcole canister.

the picture was taken in daylight with a crappy digital camera. The valve that's making the noise is the one in my friend's fingers.
The car has a new fuel pump and filter.

Question, I got rid of my split air pipe when I removed my cat. converter from my car and installed just a presilencer. Now I'm getting a new cat. converter to put in, to replace the presilencer, for state emissions purposes. I just realized that I won't have that check valve, can I just run a hose without the valve? Or do I need one? Thanks.
