What Springs to buy?

Put the 7 away for storage and just couldn’t come to sell it… After taking that heavy stock exhaust out and replacing with a RB collected exhaust my passenger side sits higher than the driver so I need new springs. After doing some searching I didn’t see much about B&G Springs. Does anyone currently have them installed and could you post a pic? I would like a little lower stance than stock and I’m not looking at getting coilovers. For a car mostly driven on weekends and never going to autocross it I can’t see spending the money on them. I have seen a lot of people recommending RB but I seen in other posts that ride height might increases. Also Racing Beat has there suspension Kit 10% off would upgrading the sway bars be worth it only a street driven car over stock?

What i'm looking at...
Racing Beat Springs
Suspension Tech Springs
B&G Springs (Has the lowest drop at 1.4”)

I personally hate my RB's on the streets around here. I have the tokicko blues with them and the ride isnt ideal unless I bring a fat friend to cruise around with me. Stock springs ftw.

I think they have the best stuff and you can easily go with a coil over setup to set the ride height where you want it for not that much more money. I'm sure they'll help you with an ideal spring rate too.

As far as non coilovers, I have tokico HP and couldn't be happier with them. Big difference in handling.

But the tokicos are struts, not springs.
As for springs go with these
http://mrcmfg.com/catalog/product_in...roducts_id=149
I dont know anything about them but whats listed on that page.
I just know that you'll be the first one that Sam has ever seen order them, or at least thats what he told me over the phone a few weeks ago. Personally I would go with the respeed coil over kit, just get the race set for the rear and the street set for the front. I'm only throwing that out there in case the welded install is the problem for you as the street front is something of a bolt in. As for the RB springs, I was gonna go that route for awhile but I was quickly disuaded from it by reports that after a year they sag and loose the spring they start with. As for the the B&Gs I can't say much but keep in mind that the lower your car gets the more the roll center changes. Lets see if Sam gets in here he'll be able to tell you all about it I'm sure.

I didnt know the street fronts where bolt on. I do have a $700 budget for this purchase. I may have to look at that option. Are they as easy to install as just doing the springs? this would be the next question. With just springs it’s just unbolting compressing the coil… unless I’m missing something(haven’t done this before) With the coilover option i would still have enough for a Stut tower brace.

I currently don't have any plans on replacing the struts. They are monroe and only have about 25k on them.

Go with Respeed, you won't regret it. With just springs, you're going to get what you get. If you're not happy with the height, tough. Spend a small percentage more for full adjustment, then you are gauranteed to be happy.

Installation of the street kit is indeed as simple as a spring replacement. Sam can advise you on desired spring rates based on your wishes.

I have them on my car and they are not hard to instal at all. Just remove the stock springs and place the lower spring seat on the strut, it sits on top of the stock spring seat, easy instal.

Looking at the front street coilover kit I need to buy the springs they are not included in the kit? Is that right... I can see that the rears include the springs.

Just shoot Sam a PM here (dj55b) and he can advise you on the spring rate, spring length, etc.

I mean, why guess when you've got an expert consultant willing to work with you on your suspension redesign for free. Right?

My springs are about the softest I have ever heard of anyone using (200 front 175? rear i think) I have the respeed front sway bar and front roll center spacers and in spite of the soft springs it still handles like its on rails, sits fairly low, body roll is non existant, totally predictable near the limit and as an added bonus it is quite compliant and confortable, the best of both worlds. Well worth the money.

That is exactly the right recipe for a solid handling daily driver. Spring soft, then use good swaybars to control the roll.

Your rear spring rate is not 175 though. Maybe 125? On my car (daily driver, autocrosser) I run 275/150 F/R. You pretty much want the rear rate slightly higher than half of the front rate.

Thats still roughly double the stock rate if I'm not mistaken lol.

Thanks Kentetsu, I would have given him sam's SN before but I can never remember it, I usually just go to one of the group buy sections and shoot a pm to re-speed.com directly to get ahold of him.

Noticably lower, I'll go grab a picture in a moment.

Hard to tell in the pics but the car is definitely a tad lower.

Thanks for all the help and the pics. I ordered from Re-Speed a set of coilovers and a strut tower brace. For my situation I went with 200# in the front and 125# in the rear. Sam was very helpful.

You will be very happy with that setup. Add their front swaybar and you'll be all set for just about anything you want to do with the car.

Also, when I installed RB springs on my '85 GS it ended up just under 1 inch higher. I was not happy. Wheel gap was horrible. Yes, I learned the hard way to do it right the first time. lol.

The only addition I would recommend would be roll center spacers. If you lower the car then the roll center gets screwed up and you can end up with excessive body roll. The spacers keep a more correct roll center making body roll ( and nose dive under braking I think) much less pronounced. I feel that stiff springs are sometimes used to make up for poor suspension geometry.

2 cts.....

Those look like the konig rewinds, if I remember correctly they should be 15s as I was considering these until I decided I hated the way they look in the picture that discount tire had for them and didn't feel like dropping 400 on rims I wasn't sure I would like. These pics are a bit of an eye opener however.

Yep, Konig rewinds... 15x8 with toyo R1R's I think the beefy "fat" look of the tires is what makes them look so good. (they're actually really light, can lift the whole wheel up with 2 fingers)

I promise you they look a lot better when the car is clean and in person.
