What should i do with this?

I was reinstalling my freshly cleaned gas tank today when i came across a problem. The vent line that runs off the pcv type fitting in the top of the tank goes to a white colored check vavle type fitting mounted to the bottom of the trunk deck. Im not really sure what its called but it has another hose that comes off of it that goes into the frame rail and vents off. When removing the old lines to install new fresh ones i broke the white check valve fitting on the bottom of the trunk deck. Im not really sure what it does but my question is that do i need this fitting. is it some kind of emssions control or can i get away with just venting the line straight from the tank to the whole is the frame rails and bypass the white fitting. If not i guess i will have to go to mazda and atempt to buy a new one.
Any info is greatly apreciated.
Thanks again.
Old Tex.

There are 2 check valves, the other one is on the frame rail. In the event of a roll over, they shut off the fuel. The top one works in conjuction with the charcoal canister, but I am not sure how. I would chase one down from a parts car instead of going to Mazda.

Both work in a roll over. The top one is for tank venting during, volume and pressure changes, this is a good thing. I would replace it.
