Pioneer DEH-3700 I believe. Gets it done and looks nice. The lowest price that plays MP3's. Got it for 139.00 locally.

Yes, it is. Ask any audiophile which they would prefer, and I'm sure that 99% of them would go with the Nak. Looks are a personal preference, but the Nak is such a clean, classic design. And the sound quality is incredibly clean (24 d/a conversion).

Sony is just a name, and I find a lot of their products to be complete crap. Lexus used to use Nak systems in their cars, I'm not sure if they still do. Just read some reviews of the Nak head units.

And, based on the specs the OP gave, the Nak seems to fit his bill to a T. I will take some my pics of my install.

Right on.

My brother used to install audio systems for a living and he said that the RX-7 is far from being the best car in which to invest a lot of money for a stereo system if what you want is great sound. He recomended I add plenty of sound dampening materials (i.e. Dyna-mat) when i get it painted and all the carpeting and seats are out. He also said that a good rule of thumb (though not set in stone) is that clean sound at high levels needs a good head-unit, amp and speakers; where as a good, clean sound at low or normal volume would be best served by having good speakers.

Finaly, he added that instead of Dynamat, a much more inexpensive alternative is to use a material that you find at roofing supply places or a lumber yard. It looks like a thin sheet of tar on one side and the other is a sheet of aluminum and it comes in rolls about 1 foot wide and 10 feet long (he used it in my old izuzu). He compared the products, and for the amount you save (it's 1/3 the cost of Dynamat) it's a much superior deal.

As far as head units though, I still like my Ipod. I hope some manufacturer develops a headunit where I can just insert my iPod as if it where a cd or tape, and have access to all my music!

I will chime in on this one. I used Fatmat on the entire car prior to the install of my system. Great stuff to use, but slow on shipping. The head unit I'm using is an Alpine CDA 9833 with an iPod interface. If you don't want skipping 100%, then using an iPod is the way to go. I just plug it in the glove box and control it from the headunit.

theres a link to the specs. Of course I didnt buy them from there. Crutchfield is way over priced! But they do have a good list of the specs.

They sound sweet because I listen to alot of techno and rock and they are great for both!!!

Top EQ was to tailor sound for the kick panel and the door speakers...the bottom EQ trimmed the sound for the back speakers and bass gain for the subs...

I like my head unit a lot guys, I mean the sound output is abolutely rad and matching with the infinity kapa in the front I believe those are it with some polk audio in the rear, wow it sounds good and looks good too. One thing I do love about mine is the fact I can completely turn off all display, so at night got the tunes kicking and no bright light in my face. Yes it has a display, but I keep on the racing vette and elise. Now the display does have a contrast control with 3 different settings on what dim you want. It has outputs in the rear as well. I can link up with a sirius I believe or xm one of the two, I just gotta get the adapter and bam I'm listening to satellite radio.

Now the front 4" infinity were a tight squeeze to get it, they were pretty deep, but they are very well worth it.

Edit: Here's some newer pics

I've used Sony speakers and amps, and I have to say that they were some of the worst units I've ever dealt with. Sony makes a lot of kick ass stuff, but when it comes to car audio they suck.

I beleive Nakamichi still makes the Lexus sound systems, with the exception of the Mark Levinson system. For anyone who's never heard a Mark Levinson system, go find a Lexus dealership, now. It is the best sounding stereo you will ever hear in a car, period. My dad opted for it in his new GS300. 14 speakers, 11 channel external amplifier, with discrete 5.1 digital surround through 7.1 architecture. Yeah.

jayroc 11-03-05 11:39 PM

Stock stereo, EQ AND speakers. oh, yeah. pimpin
I got the surround sound adjust knob next to the power window switches too.
I am thinking about taking it out, though cause it has static like a mofo, but.. radios are nice to have.

GavinJuice 11-04-05 12:36 AM

Nak makes some fantatic decks. The thing i love is their design. They're not flashy with crazy ass colors, mechanical faceplates yadayada. More shit to make someone wanna steal it. Nak is the one deck i would want in my rx, expecially if i wanted some nice tunes without worrying about some bastard getting greedy.

I have an Alpine 7894 in my P5 and currently no radio in my RX-7, radios weigh too much anyway.

Anyone have any thoughts on Clarion's DXZ655MC or DXZ755MC. Saw the 755 yesterday and looks like it'd be a pretty close match on backlight at least (has a color called "warm amber" which looks to match the FB backlight ). What about sound quality and performance though?

Mikeydred 12-04-05 11:53 AM

I have the same one as Mar3. Sony xr-c8200 Mobile ES! Matches the trim perfect and lights up orange.

One Kenwood and One Jensen MP5720XM, both do the job admirably the Jensen is XM ready and has a blue tint to the lighting.

Let's dredge this one up and see what you guys are running these days.

Naturally, my spare factory headunit was dead and when I went back to the one that came with the car, the display was out, so... I'm all about the OEM look, and would love a function factory unit, but this latest experience has got me contemplating something aftermarket.

tommyeflight89 06-12-14 06:09 PM

I am almost done installing a Kenwood MP425 with some regular speakers front and rear, nothing fancy or loud.

I love the look of the new-school single DIN unit dropped in the classic interior of the FB.

I finished cleaning up the original owners wiring, cut out the center console to accept the single DIN unit, and bent/hacked the dash supports out of the way. Two small brackets are in the way that support the heater/AC controls.

As for wiring it in, my only idea was to tap the power from the cigarette lighter. It has an "always on" and its own ground. I would then disable the cigarette lighter.

There are plenty of switched wires to get the switched signal from.

How have people been wiring their decks in? I am hesitant to run a + battery wire just for a 100W sound system....
