what kind of headunit do you have?
I am going to replace my headunit and I just wanted to know what kind of headunits you guys had and how you like them. I dont want something that stands out a lot, just something that could almost look stock, but has all the functions that i need...(mp3, sub out) also i was hoping for red buttons and display to match all the other interior lights.. Post pics if you got em!! thanks ~TIM (p.s. if you have something that sounds like what im looking for let me know and i might buy it off you.)

I have a JVC KD-G700, I really like it, but I haven't installed it on my RX7 yet, I haven't had the cash to get the dash kit, and I have a feeling i will screw something up if I do it :)
I had it in my old car (a tracker :( ) and it sounded awesome with 2 polk 6 1/2s and 2 4" infinity kappas from like 1996. It will read MP3s and WMV files, and has sub out and all that good stuff. |
I have a Sony CDX-M7815X. It is the shiznit! A few swipes with the dremel and that bad boy was in. I put in all new infinity speakers all around and ran new streetwire for all of them. I think I have some pics. I have them put they are to large I cant figure out how to make them smaller. Dang!

currently running an Alpine 9833..cool thing is... it matches the 7's dash illumination

sweet i got a alpine tape deck ahahha never have used it though, beats me if the thing even works. but i want to replace it with a MP3 one

sony and jvc SUCK
i've just bought an alpine cda 7893...great deck IMO great decks are alpine, eclipse, some pioneer.... pretty much any company will make entry level garbage, and then better ones...it all depends on what you are looking for in a deck nick |
I run a cheapo Dual deck but amazingly it isn't that bad esp for $89 and it has MP3 support and an aux in so I hook my iPod to it. Not that great but it does the job, the exhaust is so loud and all that I didn't want to spend much.

I have a sirus ready Kenwood KDC- MP225...MP3 and WMA ready...I probably would like it but its not in yet...lol...but Kenwood does make awesome stereo equipment I have a massive home stereo system shakes the beams in my house barely 1/5th of the way up...oh it also has audio-video hookup...go Kenwood

Mine is stock with a cassette adapter that's hooked up to my iPod photo. My am/fm reception is perfect and I carry about 7000 songs with me. What I really want to change though are the speakers...oh and the joystick in the center console that controls the balance and fade...it's so loose that when I take off too quickly all the sound gets pushed to my rear speakers!! It's so annoying!!

I have a Sony CDXC-910 It was rated the "BEST" deck ever made by several car stereo maga as well as many in the audio business. The illumination is the exact color of the Rx's and it comes with a really cool remote that will take the place of your "Joystick Fader"
The only problem is that it was discontinued and now you can only find them on E-Bay.com The price new was $900.00 and you MUST use amps with it since it is a preout only unit. The sound quality is prefect and in the last 8 years mine hasnt skipped a beat even once. Do a google search for it and take a look at the reviews yourself. That is gay............ Check out the distortion levels....... And it dosent match the FB interior...... Look at a new Porsche and you will see that the most modern car has the most mundane radio.... When i was in the new Ford GT (Yes the $156,000.00 one) the stock radio is a 2 knob unit...... Classic is the way to go.... If you want a "RICE" radio then buy a honda...... Jay 1984 FB |

I wouldn't buy anything that you can get at one of the large Big Box stores. I have a Nakamichi head unit and it is abolutely amazing. Nakamichi is more about sound quality and aimed at audio purists. You won't find flying dolphin screensavers, a clutter display, or a 32 band EQ (only bass, mid, treble). But you will find a simple, clean, cleaner sounding head unit.
I just took a look at their website, and it looks like their designs are starting to fall off a bit and are influenced by the VW/Audio blue/red lighting scheme, especially on the MP3 compatible reciever. That blows! But take a look at the CD-400 for an example of the clean design. I don't think that is MP3 compatible. Maybe they will release a clean one I have the CD-45z. It's no longer made. But it's been working fine. The only problem I have is it sometimes skips when I corner hard, I guess the centrifigual force pulls the lazer back. I think it's only left turns (those are usually the fastest ones!) But it's a very minor problem. It does have sub outs and aux inputs for your pod, too. Right on. edit - the CD-500 looks likes a winner, assuming you can change the display to amber (which you should be able to do, as with all Naks) |

My sony never skips no matter what im doing, and it gets the job done so im proud of it. Plus I think it looks a lot better than that. |
