What The Hell Are We Doing Wrong?

Ok, we tried to put new brake pads in the rear of our 85 GSL. We got the wheels off, took the calipers off, took the old pads off, but the ******* pistons wont go back in no matter how hard we pressed, clamped, or twisted. We even went to the parts store and bought a special tool to turn the pistons thinking they had to be turned to go back in. We had the lid to the master cylinder off, and we even cracked open the bleeder valves, but the bitches just wont go back in. What the ****? Im so pissed right now, and if you guys tell me to buy new calipers, Im selling the car. Any help would be great.

they probably make a kit for the calipers they aren't that much. Better off to just go replace the calipers.

Did you say that just because I told you not to, or did you say that because you dont know why else they would work fine while driving but now they are jammed?

Does the parking brake unit have something to do with it? Do I have to release something, take something off, take something apart? Before you ask, yes, we are trying to do this without the brake on . COuld it be that since the pads were so increadibly low that the parking brakes adjustor has the piston set so that it wont go back in very far? How can I get around that?

Had the same problem with mine. You have two options..

First, get the correct tool. Not the litte square thingy piece of junk. The correct tool spins and compresses at the same time.

Second, get reman calipers. Parts America (sorry, Advance Auto) had them for $44 apiece. $88 is cheaper than the correct tool ($150).

Edit: Ignorace, isint it great ? I found them also, but I dont have that long, or that much money. Napa has the ones I need (the rear ones) for $104 each. I wish the fronts were bad, and not the rears, those are the $44 each ones. I need to get this on the road by Monday so I can drive to work though, please someone help!!

Well you could always just do what I did... put the old pads back in and live with the ugly noises until you can fix it right

I watched garfinkle do mine , he pushed and turned the piston in at the same time ,it was very hard to do on one side but it went in flush .He is not a big person so try, try another time . turn in clockwise while pushing

I had to stand on the ratchet on my tool to get them to budge. (Another reason why the little cube tool is garbage!) But eventually they popped loose and they threaded in just fine.
