Oh- THAT can't be good...
*Ahem*
follow up to mysterious-water-leak-into-oil-pan Post back in May. As Atkins Rotary predicted, Behold the oil galley floor punched out into the water jacket, with pieces beside it

Stupid 12a rebuild questions to follow...

So. THAT's why you have antifreeze in your coolant...? Did I mention I live in Alaska?
Did I mention I had DRAINED the #$%^!#@ block? (or thought so...)
Please. Have a laugh at my expense. Really...
*sigh*

Interesting. Looks like you need an iron and housing.

You're not the first to discover that draining the system is no substitute for antifreeze. unfortunatwly it's not easy to get the water out of every nook and cranny.

Ya- PITA but on the bright side am enjoying the rebuild process.... so far. Maybe ignorance is Bliss
Amazed at relative simplicity and spectacular engineering. The Eccentric Shaft is a true Work Of Art.
And people get all drooly at the sight of a Ferrari V-12... THIS is engineering....!

First one is usually fun, fraught with anticipatory apprehension. Hope you bought/acquired one of the rebuild vids. Great source of the little details that are easily missed. I missed a critical one on my first rebuild, but it was a practice one in preparation for the real thing. Autopsying the failure of the first rebuild attempt was a valuable learning experience in itself. Learned more from that than the rebuild itself.

Good luck with your rebuild, enjoy it and don't sweat it.
