1st gen = lightest
2nd gen = heavier
3rd gen = heaviest

as far as I know....

more luxury/performance options = more added weight

Don't forget all the safety gear the newer cars were required to have. Mazda couldn't build a remake of the first gen these days due to safety regulations.

Weights are approximate depending upon options:
1st gen = 2335 to 2420#, GSL-SE up to 2640#
2nd gen = (S4) 2625# , convertibles 3000+
(S5) added more weight, TII = 2987#
3rd gen = 2789#

My SA weighs 2300 lbs.
So which is lighter, SA or FB?
I've never been able to pin that one down to my satisfaction, some say the SA, some the FB.
My 1985 Racing Bleat catalog says that the SA models had some additional bracing that was done away with on the FBs.
