What to expect w/ a 104k SE engine

I have a SE engine with 104k miles. I was told it was a running engine and found nothing to disprove this. The car I pulled it from was clean inside and out but was put out of service after being clipped in the rear. Anyway, I got it to rebuild and was wondering if someone could speak as to what kind of wear to expect. I figured the miles were not low enough to jusify just doing an engine swap but enough to show promise for a good core to rebuild.

Depends on what your expectations and purpose for the motor is. A buddy of mine bought a one owner SE last summer with 240k on it. Runs like like a champ. Internally it's probably past reuse for a rebuild, but yours might run fine for quite a few more miles.

it should be OK! i pulled my SE engine out w/ 90K and it was running strong My friends SE's got 170 on the clock and it runs fine / plus gslse's are known as Bulletproof motors(w/no mods of couse=).........) so i would say w/ good care you can get another 150K out of it

I'm on 286k miles on my se and it runs like a top. no leaks, full compression as tested by mazda! not too shabby considering it's 20 years old !

My original plan was to find a good core, keeping it in stock form, that would only need new hard and soft seals inorder to get 100k more miles out of it. Looking for straight up realibility. The engine I am running now still runs good but leaks oil all underneath and gets blown on the exhaust, has some hard starts and other minor issues. It is an original engine but not for this car so I can't speak of the actual mileage. So what kind of success is there with a rebuild on these? Is it within the scope of the build level I am looking at with my core to get another 100k miles?
