Unhappy What do you think is wrong

hi guys,
I am having a litle bit of trouble with my stock 1981 rx-7 but I don't know what exactly is wrong . Quite often when it is ideling the revs will drop and it will start to die (within about 5 seconds). If I am in the car I have to quickly push the accelerator for a second to keep it alive. When I hit the acelerator a fair amount of white-ish smoke comes out. Can someone sugest what this is.
Thanks heaps guys,

Rotormotor

The white smoke usually indicates coolant leaking into the engine somewhere. It could be very bad, i.e. time for a rebuilt, or it could be as simple as the two rubber o'rings in the intake manifold. I would start by replacing the o'rings. Just pop the intake off and replace with new. The idle problem? I don't know. I have owned my car for 23 years and it still does that. Try going completely through the ignition, new plugs, wires, rotor, cap, timing, fuel filter etc. After that you will have to attack the carb.
Mine "cleans" out and idles fine if I push it up above 4K rpm. Who knows?
hope this helps,
hanman

Thanks,
I don't know if it was clear in my original post but the white smoke only seems to happen when I hit the accelerator after it tries to stall on me. It also happens for about 5 mins after I turn it on.

Sounds like the orings, like I said it's an easy fix. Anyway, I would start there.
