What color is my car?

Have a grey '84. Is this called tornado silver or tornado grey, or is that the color designation for the more silver car? Mines the dark grey.

We're gonna need to send someone back to Kindergarten. That's black fool! :p

Look at the Nameplate near the center of your engine bay. It'll list the VIN and a paintcode near it.

Mine is K3, Sunbeam Silver Metallic. But it got a crappy Maaco job and faded to hell.

Also, you can go to a good "automotive paint" place, and ask to look at their Color Chip book, which will have all the auto manufacturers listed, and a separate page of Color Chips for each year... so you look at the chips for Mazda, 1984, and determine which color you've got. Under each color chip is the code and "name" of the paint color.

If you need some touch-up paint, be advised that due to aging the paint on the car may have changed color slightly over the years, and may not match the touch-up paint exactly. And technician might not be able to mix the paint exactly, too.. difficult when you're mixing a small amount of paint, but usually close enough, eh.

That car in the pic is the same color as mine, and I also think the paint code is K8 with the metallic flake.
My question is what did mazda call this color? I seem to remember hearing it referred to as tornado silver or grey.

And my car has miminal fading thankya very much

gunmetal grey is a little bit lighter then the good ol' K8 and w/o the cool metallic flake. i had to get a bumper off a scrap car after ramming a mercedes, and that was the color. the two colors are pretty damn close; i haven't had the bumper skin painted, and nobody notices the difference in color unless i point it out to 'em.

my question is, when i get around to getting my hood, fender, and bumper sprayed, how should i go about getting the paint? should i just have the paintshop mix a batch to match my car or is there a way to get a batch of K8 from mazda?
