I have a 1985 GSL that I am starting to modify I already have the full racing beat exhaust and next I am going to change to a different carburatoer/intake setup. I am going to run a carter fuel pump and holley fuel pressure regulator. Im curious as to what carb setup is the most streetable? I am looking at the weber 48 dcoe and am curious on how practical it is on the street and if it has a choke or not. Pretty much I am looking for a good comprimise between power and streetablity (choke) so the car will actually start. (even though its going to strictly be a summer car I need it to start and are summers aren't to hot) I am thinking of eventually streetporting the engine when it needs to be taken out in the long run.

I thought that the Ida's don't have chokes? And isnt a 51 ida far too big? Remember this is going to be running on stock port probally for a year or two

 

yeah i have a weber 45dcoe side draft, you can put a choke on it, but i never use it, since ur in canada u might need it, i think the 45 and the 40 are the only ones with a choke on it... but i do love my weber, and the way it sounds is sexy...

my dellorto 48dhla is great. awesome power and xcellent on the streets, very similar to the dcoe weber. my dell has a choke. 48 will be fine on a streetport 12a. i never use my choke because these carbs have such an excellent accelerator pump design you really dont need it. spend the xtra $ and buy a Racing Beat unit and it will take all the guess work and headaches out of the equation.

 

the dellorto looks like a great carb the only problem I see with it is there isn't a widely available market for parts since they aren't being made anymore.

 

I have run a 48 IDA on stock and street ported motors with good results. I live in NW ohio and ran it all winter (IDA's dont have chokes). Just give it three pumps and it would fire rtght up. Parts for tuning are easy to find and everyone is an expert! I believe I got most of the parts from Racing Beat But you can also find good used ones...,Rex

 

Using that logic you shouldn't be within 5 miles of an FB.

 

why not just turn to a cleaned and modded Nikki?

You can get Dellorto parts from most VW shops, That's where I get my stuff from.

 

Because I have broken off 2 bolts in the stock intake manifold, it pissed me off and I would like to get more horses from my car. I am a amatuer mechanic and have tried to take the broken bolt out, successfully only to break off another one in (ya I know how dumb is that) I know a modded Nikki will do this but I love the look of a sidedraft and the sound/power increase is supposed to be great.

oh, and the 45 weber is the most streetable carb that comes with a choke

the mikuni's are pretty tight. a price that can't be beat too! buy that **** before someone else does. i am surprised it hasnt already sold at that price.
