What is it?

Recently I had a bushing break on my drivers side "Head Light lifting rod" the rod came off the cam and crushed what looks to be some kind of relay located by the drivers side behind the headlight...does anyone know what it is? at the same time I replaced my headlights with 100/80 watt bosch units...now ever so often when I hit the high beams I loose my lights for a fraction of a second! is this caused by the "thing that was crushed" or do I have another problem.
Thanks,
Paul

Don't know about the relay, but those lifting rod bushings wear out when they're about 20 years old, you can't replace just the bushing, the JY cars are wornout too, but you can get OEMs from mazdatrix for about $13. I should buy 'em by the gross.

That sounds like the oscillator.
Its some sort of resistor/diode/electronic unit that has to do with the low coolant buzzer/light system.I wouldnt worry too much about it,unless your dash idiot lights start to go hay-wire.

Steve, I usually agree with you, but not on this one. Imho, the buzzer is a vital part of the built in protection for the engine. Blow an oil line, don't see the light, buzzer non-op, engine is soon toast. Buzzer will also indicates low oil condition.

When you have no oil pressure, you will soon lose both the rotor and stationary gear bearings, along with the e-shaft. Personal experience.

Yea,that was a fuzzy guess,I forgot or didnt realize the low oil buzzer was linked to the oscillator.
From the time I got it,my oil/coolant buzzer hasent worked.I never even knew there was one until I read about it.Just assumed the gauges and idiot lights were all there was.

that thing is a hit or miss part. i find that they'll fill with water and become all jacked up. its a common failure(at least here in ohio)
