Question what is this??

ok so a few days ago this happened for the first time and scared the crap out of me, my car made the same noise, and idled the same as my last engine did when i thought that it was running on one rotor..... since then it has happened maybe three or four times... so here is what it does and ill try to explain it the best that i can..... it only happnes on cold starts, and when i first turn the car on it idles very rough. like du, du, du, and when i give it any gas its like it is using half its power, then the "du, du, du's" start getting faster and its almost like it coughs and then all better, idles fine and runs like a champ.... now my last engine never cleared up and i could drive it but barely since it ran on half its power thus is why i thought that i might be running on one rotor.....any insite on what could be the cause of this???and how to fix it???? thanks
kevin

Sounds a lot like when my leading ignitor went. Did you double-check your leading spark?

Even as it was failing it would go on and off. The only thing different is that mine seemed to get worse as it warmed.

^^^^ I'm with him.
Even when my trailing ignitor would get strange in cold weather I noticed a loss of power and weird idle...
