What’s it cost – Driveline

This is a thread committed to figuring out what is a fair price for used parts. I know that parts are worth whatever you can get for them, but some folks are just plain out of line. Now, I am not calling myself an expert on the price for used parts, I am not. I just thought it would be useful to have a frame of reference for prices on used parts. If you think that I am off base with a price, coo, post what you think it should be. The feedback will help others to figure out what they should pay. I thought that I may start three of these threads, driveline, suspension, and shipping.

Engines – I thought I would brake this into four groups: core engines (those that do not run); unknown (it was supposed to run when it was pulled, but the seller has no first hand knowledge about the engine); good engines (they run, have good compression, maybe have the morning blues [smoke], but have more than 135,000 miles); great engines (those with less than 135,000, stellar compression, and run clean). Sure we could add in rebuilts, but I think that one is tough. You can ‘t tell if the engine was built from brand new parts or parts swept up off the floor.

12A Core free to $100
12A Unknown $100 to $300
12A Good $300 to $600

Clutch and Flywheels
Stock clutch – good $25 to $75, great add 25.
Aftermarket street and strip clutch good $75 to $125, great add $25 to $50

Light steel flywheel (without counterweight) - good (may have a worn contact surface and “rough” flywheel ring gear) $100 to $175, great (freshly milled contact surface and with a clean ring gear) $150 to $300.

Aluminum flywheel (without counterweight) - good (may have a worn contact surface and “rough” flywheel ring gear) $100 to $200, great (freshly milled contact surface and with a clean ring gear) $150 to $350.

Ok, that is a good place to start with. If you think this is useful great let me know. If you think the numbers are off, well let me know what you think they should be.

Thanks
