Question Weird noise in tranny. What is it?

When im going down the road and let of the gas something make a weird scratching noise. I think it from the tranny. The noise gets slower as the car slows down and if i push the clutch it stops. I think it stops if I put it in neutral- i cant remember for sure.

What do you guys think it is?

Is it in every gear or just one gear, or just a few? If its only one gear, your syncro's could be wearing out.

I had this problem... and REGRETFULLY, I ignored it. Now, I need to rebuild the tranny, because the input shaft bearings went dry, and damn near seized up the tranny.

My dad knows a guy that will take a ride with me to hear and hopefully find the problem.

when you say the imput shaft bearing are you reffering to the pilot bearing?
