weird electrical problem? headlight motor

Ok guys yesterday I drove my car to school (10 mile drive) and noticed no problems in my car and I did not stress the engine out as I stay under 4k rpms for daily driving. As I left home one of the headlight rods (metal rod that connects the headlight to the motor so it goes up and down) came loose and detached from the headlight causing it to stay up. No big deal at first, I drove home and everything seemed fine, engine was cool, i had over 12v of energy so I wasn't worried.

So 3-4 hours later I go outside (night time by now) and I heard my headlight motors trying to move as if they were jammed. I did not hear this when the rod detached before i left school to go home. Anyway, I checked my lights and of course the battery was dead. I tried jumping the car but was unable to do so, my gauge read under 11v of energy on the battery. I tried another battery but that also failed but I did head the car crank but it was unable to start. the motors kept on trying to move whenever the battery had power and the weird thing was, only one headlight would function at a time.

for example the left headlight motor would open and shut as if it was jammed until i switched the headlight dash button to close them. after doing that the left headlight would stop but the right headlight would begin to open and shut.

any suggestions, comments? maybe I had to bad batteries? maybe it was just coincidence that my engine may have just died when i got home? anything would be appreciated. thanks
