Weird clutch

When I bought my car the previous owner said he recently put in a new clutch, however its the strangest clutch I've used. It engages just fine never slips and I rarely grind gears(when i do its my mistake), but the clutch pedal travel is remarkably short probably about 4-6 inches which makes it hard to drive smothly. I've driven cars with bad clutches before and I know the clutch isn't worn, its like any normal clutch pedal travel, only much shorter. When I first bought it there was a spring which held the pedal up to take up the slack, but that broke the first day I owned it (made no difference on the clutch itself). The engagement is smooth, I don't have to pump it, the clutch fluid isn't leaking, it never slips and when I want to it'll burn the rear tires when I slam it into 2nd. Any idea what this is?

By your description it's just clutch pedal adjustment.

Heynes manual has the procedure, and I think the FSM (Factory Shop Manual) does too. I've gotta get around do doing mine because it's the exact opposite. Mine has *too* much travel, and engages too close to the top.

isnt engaging close to the top good? dont have to mash it all the way down to the floor to shift gears. just a quick pedal then shift... ? thats the way i like mine anyway

not *too* close to the top. If it's too far up, then you fully let off the pedal and it slips it's way into engagement. I've gotta bring it down at least a bit
