weird choke/ idle problems

k i have done a couple searches but im not sure what im looking for so i am posting

ok my car has been idling flakey since i got it but tis getting much worse.

Now, i start it cold the car starts immediately and turns over strong, i set the choke and the car hums at about 1k RPM for a minuite or two...

then, the engine starts to lug, surge... the revs start bouncing each time the revs are slower and slower until the car dies...

unless i add more choke. then it still is rough and needs to be nursed for awhile,, then its stilll lugging and surging but its doing it at 1500 RPM range.

driving the car will die if i take my foot off the throttle and the car's in neutral... i thought this was meerely something kooky withthe choke, but now its also doing it at operating temperature.

but not every time. so now i have a choke that runs like crap and when the car is at running temp it sometimes adles happily at 100rpm

sometimes at 850 rpm

sometimes rough at 80-900 rpm

and sometimes if the throttles lifted off the car will jsut die.

any thoughts ?

I had similar problems with mine a little over a year ago.... and I can't even tell you where to start 'cause I tried everything and slowly got it running better....

I assume you've checked the fuel filter and such?

Good luck though :-)

I think you just need to tune the idle.
Tune it when the engine is warm.
After you have it idling nicely at 750, direct your attention to the choke.
The choke should engage the fast idle linkage (which simply lifts the primary shaft a tad) so that the engine runs at 2000 rpm.
