I am having problems with my 48mm Weber. At high speeds around corners only, the car surges, splutters and coughs. It clears when I'm travelling in a straight line again. Could this be due to the float level? What is the correct float level? Has an extended fuel bowl. Any suggestions??

Mine always did that as well when somewhat low on fuel but the extended float bowl should fix that. It could be a low float level but mine would usually stumble on righ rpm shifts as well if the float level was too low.

You need to have the diagrams for setting the float level but you could try bending the tab down just a touch (only a mm or two) and seeing if that helps.

 

improper fuel pressure, your pump is too small

 

I doubt a bigger pump will help as it's not a matter of fuel starvation under WOT. Mine would sputter even under light throttle when cornering if the fuel was below a 1/4 tank. It's a combination of fuel sloshing away from the pickup and not enough fuel in the float bowl. Upping the fuel pressure might help along with raising the float level.

Best way would be to install a surge tank and never have to worry about it again.
