We broke the Passenger Side Strut/Spindle Assembly last night...

Ok... we are swapping Illumina Struts and Eibach springs into our 1982 FB. We got the rear and driver's side done... and ran into problems with the front passenger side. The entire assembly unbolted off the car alright, but my fiance, David and our friends were working until late last night trying to get the strut out of the assembly. It is welded together from the rust. Grrr. I don't know the whole story at this point (and the car isn't at my house right now), but I do know we need that assembly, because apparently something broke on it past the point of repair. I had to work at 7:30AM this morning, so I wasn't awake when the incident occurred.

David (my fiance) will post when he wakes up to clarify what exactly happened. I'm just in a hunt for a new part so we can finish our project before our trip Wednesday.

If you have what we need, PLEASE post or PM me... I will drive to pick it up if you are within 3 hours of Raleigh. (or if you could ship it overnight to be here by Tuesday at the latest.)

Thanks guys!!

Yeah, that's ours. OKay, story goes...

Last night, pulled the strut brace and full assembly attached off...Drivers side went smoothe as butter, but passenger side it broke. Basically the spindle nut that holds the strut in has those 4 great weld points, and apparently rust>weld. All 4 points snapped and the ring on top came off...bottom line, no workey mo more

We tried to drill a hole down the spindle on each side to twist it out, not enough leverage. Tried to cut off the Shaft that is internal of the strut...success, but then when we slotted a HUGE center slot to use with a crowbar for the spindle, no luck.

So basically we tried everything our brains could think of until 5 in the morning.

3 out of 4 isn't bad, is it? I can just roll the right front without a shock and the other 3 will make up the difference since they're "upgraded" right? lmao. Yeah, we're working on a fix already, but we'll see what happens. Thanks for reading everyone.

We need to replace it now. The bolt that keeps the strut finally came out, but the strut is stuck in there good.

Does anyone in the area have the passenger side spindle/strut cartridge in good shape for sale? I have a friend who can ship it here overnighted by Tuesday... but I would like to pick it up today if there is one available sooner.

Thanks!!
