Does anyone know what the waveform for a 79 rx-7 should look like or how many KW"S the coil should produce ?

I don't know the answer, but I've been thinking that I oughta get one of those USB oscilloscopes and an ignition probe. Then I could document normal and abnormal waveforms for the car.

The cost can go from just over a hundred to over a thousand.

 

Yea I wish I knew because I hooked it up to my cousins snap-on labscope , And the waveform just didnt look right and the coil KW's just seemed too low

I just looked on eBay and found a scope for $75, but with low bandwidth.

Meh, you need to take the computer out to the car then... Just get a cheapie 10 MHz scope for $20...

I've got a BK Precision 1477 that's perfect for this kinda stuff. They go for $20-$50 on eBay all the time

I've also got a Hitachi V-1565, Tek TDS 420A, and an HP mainframe as well.
Just slightly more expensive.


I've got a Snap-On Vantage with the kV module too... Unfortunately, I don't have an operational RX7.

 

I will tell you right now, that finding what looks like a 'normal' KV waveform is very difficult with a rotary.

Well not difficult but confusing. I don't have any pictures of when we hooked up my 12A (before I wrecked it T_T). But I can tell you right now to expect to see a strange looking waveform.

My buddy and I accounted to the difference between the trailing and leading. We figured that the second mini spike we were seeing was the result of the trailing firing.

I wasn't able to find much more information on why we had that secondary spike so we just left it at that.

And yes I'm back from my trip guys! Expect to see a thread detailing the revival of my seven soon. BWUAHAHHAHAHa
