Obviously if you need to keep adding water you're losing it somewhere... as soon as it gets below the cap of the radiator that light is triggered... fill your resivour and that should keep you good for a few days, are you filling the radiator with the car on also? turn the car on, fill up the radiator give it a few revs and fill it again until it stops going down...hopefully you already knew this though.

well, if you have a puddle of coolant under your car, then it is probably leaking. i would check everywhere for leaks, and follow the previous suggestions. I had a coolant leak that was coming off of the sensor on top of the radiator... bought a new sensor, and presto! no more leak.
good luck

if it does need the water every day, then you are loosing coolant somewhere. either into your oil (i wouldn't think it would be THAT much?!!?) or by way of leak.
btw, use 50/50 coolant/water if at all possible.

I cleaned out my resavoir, it was filthy... there is a tube that goes down into the resavoir to suck the coolant in, and it makes a 90 degree turn at the cap.... Take your resavoir out, bring it to the kitchen, clean the hell out of it, and make sure there's a free-flow through the cap. Then check the hose by running some water through it, hook it all back up and you should be good to go for that.
As for the leaking bit, take some cardboard, put it under your engine compartment and check it later on to see if any coolant is leaking onto it.
I did a coolant flush on mine, and what a difference it made... I doubt it plugged any leaks, but it's a step that many people just forget or avoid, and let me tell you, it can do wonders. I put a litre of prestone's "Super Flush" in with 8L of water (mixed it in a bucket first, then poured it in)... The stuff going in was slightly yellow water.... So I run the engine for a while, let the car sit for a day or two, run it again (the car's not on the road, so I took the "extended" de-gunk period, the instructions take less than an hour if you follow the back of the container).... And what came out looked Greenish Black... It was disgusting, and a real eye-opener as to how much crap can accumulate in there.
so find out if you're leaking, and try to track it down. If you *really* can't find it, and you flush all the gunk out and it still can't be found... your local parts store will carry a radiator "stop-leak" that you add in to your coolant and it's supposed to plug leaks. I would use this as a last resort, but man, is that light ever annoying

I recommend pressure testing the cooling system (costs about $20 at a shop or the tool in about $90) with the pump that connects to the radiator cap to check for leaks in the radiator, hoses, etc. To get any air out of the system turn on the car and the heater on high and add any coolant needed to the cold radiator and then press the accelerator while the radiator cap is open and top off the radiator. Good luck finding the leak.

If you have the water cooled oil cooler check your oil. If your oil is higher than it was / should be your oil cooler is leaking time to get a new one. But then again if your leaking that much you would be seeing coolant/oil pouring out of your engine by now.... hmmm

really?
how about if it was coming from the radiator itself..
will i have to replace the whole radiator?
or can it be fixed fairly cheaply?

My coolant isn't to the very top but it's within an inch. I haven't flushed it yet (I've only had teh car for a couple of months) but it is still fairly green.
