Water Temp Gauge Failure

Awhile back my temp gauge just stopped working, so I bought a temp sender from Mazdatrix. I installed it but the gauge still doesn't work. Do I have to calibrate the sender? Or is it something else? I've been thinking of putting an aftermarket gauge in, but I hate the way the look. If I do put one in what's the normal operating temp for an 'SE?

No calibration. Which one did you replace?

The sender under the oil filter, and how do you calibrate it?

That's the correct sender for the gauge. There is no calibration.

Sounds like a bad gauge if the sender did not fix the issue.

Thanks for help! I guess I'm going to have to get a aftermarket gauge. Does anyone know of a aftermarket gauge that uses the sender for replacement housings?

The aftermarket senders won't fit the factory location.

Do something similar to what I did. Get an old school t-stat neck. Just need to drill and tap to 1/8 npt and wire up the after market gauge. I'm also using an S4 aluminum water pump housing so I have an aftermarket temp sensor on both sides of the t-stat.

If you can't find one, you can have a bung welding in to the stock one.

Testing the dash gauge is easy.

You'll need some alligator test leads, and a couple resistors from Radio Shack or similar.
