water goes away

water goes away

we took the eng out of an 83 and put it in an 81 and the water just leaves we dont know where it goes thanks for the help

...uhhhmmm... yeah, gonna take a stab at this....

...you mean the engine is going through coolant? (ie. the coolant keeps on disappearing from the coolant tank, but you don't know where its going?)

...does it blow white smoke?

Assuming it's not burning it (which autocrash already covered re: white smoke), then the other place I've lost coolant in the past is around the intake manifold. If it leaks onto the hot exhaust manfold, it evaporates almost instantly, leaving no drip spots or indications of where you're leaking. And if it leaks on top of the manifold, that spot is almost impossible to see if you've got the rat's nest etc... in the way.

Just because you have no white smoke doesnt mean your not burning coolant. I would run the engine with the rad cap off and watch for air bubbles. If after the t-stat opens and a steady stream of bubbles are appearing you most likly have a faulty coolant seal. If you see no bubbles i would psi test the cooling system, and look for external leaks.
