Walkthroughs!

Ok...what i wanna do is kinda have people compile walkthroughs on mods for their first gen rx7s! i dont care what kinda mod it is...from interior to engine to exterior to custom fabricating...you name it...I WANNA SEE IT!

Pretty much i just want this to be a thread where people can come and see the "do it yourself" projects so we can all save money for what we really need...big turbos and a 20b!

I will be posting how i made my custom door panels WITH PICTURES!!! YAY!!! (give me a bit of time tho...like a day?)

SHOW ME WHATCHA GOT!

EDIT - If this is a popular idea...i want people to kick around ideas and such and ALSO...maybe this could be made a sticky or into a whole different section of rx7club

haha, you mean like ghetto / home-depot stuff? i've ghetto'd just about everything on my car, i'll have to get some pics tommorow. right now im trying to construct a intake manifold heatshield out of drain-spout metal, and also making a temp. "heat riser" pipe out of a 4ft length of copper i bent, soldered and gear clamped onto the header.

also for a skid-plate around the Holley pump and fuel filter i'm just using some thin sheet metal and metal screws.

unless you're going for owning a show car or something, most of the time you can just fab up stuff on your own using whatevers handy around your shop. spending $$$ on pre-fabbed stuff isnt usually required unless its a vital part of the operation of your car.

I will have to get some pics when i'm done.

Hey, Mac, set us up a website and we can make all the FAQs you want

Feel free to use my Radio Surround removal FAQ. I also have a brake remove/install FAQ for a 323 that shouldn't be TOO different than an FB.

My RX7 is currently down and out for a while due to FOUR FRIGGIN FLAT TIRES! FOUR!!!!
Therefore, I will be able to do any cosmetic FAQ with pics that you think would be useful.

I think this is a good idea, but better seved via deticated web space much like the

Linux Documentation Progject

The data is contributed by the community and archived in a single location for every one to access. Much like the forum, but deticated to documentation.

The problem is bandwidth and adminstation...

Unfortunaly I am not in a postion to help with either...

Just some thougts

As I stated earlier, give us a webpage, and we'll give FAQs. Hell, I've filmed quite a few VIDEO Faqs, including the rat's nest removal. All I need is a good webpage for them.

ok guys i work for a ISP(internet service provider). I can make a website or just host all the FAQ's if you guys want. It's up to you. I think this would be a realy awsome idea to setup but i would like everyones say in it.
I can produce faq's for MSD ignition, cheap heat treated intakes, S4 engine swaps on a gsl-se, single turbo n/a motor, porting 6 port or 4 port and the proper way to do it, also a suspension write up and how to determine what's the right setup for you and what easy part of suspension does what.
If you guys want me to let me know. I can make it as fancy or as cheap as you want. It's easy to do.

i'll let you in on a secret. I'm custome building a big brake kit by converting the gsl-se disks into a hubs and adding hats to the hubs and then custom making a mounting braket. it's in the works and have been taking pictures and writing as i've been doing it. The total cost is the brake disks, the new calipers, pads, some metal and time , time and more time. shouldn't be more than $500. but it's going to covert the 11 disks to 13 or 14 inch disks. i havn't decided which. i'm debating.

Nice! That would be great if we can get more support!

It's always a good idea until you only get three people contributing four FAQs each.

excellent...im loving all this input...13B4port: how would you like us to give you all of our writeups? I will be putting all of mine that i do on my cardomain page cuz its really user-friendly and putting up pics is cake. I could easily do HTML and all that crap to make a page on some "create your own page" site which really isnt very good for an idea such as this cuz i want LOTS of pics...and the sites usually dont give you much space...

what i want is for this to become a well-known and easily accessible site where you dont get bombarded with popups and gay **** that take away from the content of the page...what im getting at is that 13B4port...if you could set us up with a decent amount of space and are willing to work with us on the upkeep of the page...that would work out great...i just always seem to have trouble finding info on how to do differnt thing on my FB when i use the "search" format here on the forum...****...half the time i get that ****** PROXY ERROR!!! *shakes fist*

SO...keep the ideas comin!

After the fifteenth proxy in a row about six months ago, I no longer search. It hates me, and the feeling is mutual.

Alrighty then i can do it, it'll take a week to setup a computer, get statics on it and up on a connection, secure. i have a spare one laying around. The coding takes a while, i do a lot of things in PHP, SQL, pearl, css and other stuff. I'm going to try to make this site look nice and fuctional. I'm open for Ideas, I was thinking of a small news section for whats being worked on and such at the moment, the faq page with some orginization. and a section forum board, so people can ask questions about the write up or sujest new ones or submit their own.

Also when you guys make those write ups make sure that you put in there that you arn't responsible if the thing don't work or you blow yourself up or stuff like that. That's very important because i don't want to get sued from some rich snob screwing his car up when tring to do a brake job and his brakes not working and then him cring to mom and dad, then dad turning around and suing me for the FAQ".
The littlest things count when writing these up, like disconecting hte battery.
Make them sound profesional. Say stuff like "using a 12mm socket remove the 5 bolts attaching the upper intake manifold to the lower intake manifold". Don't say "grab the 10 mil and take out those bolts holding the UIM on" that leave for questions such as, "do i use a 10mm socket or wrench?", "how many bolts ar there?", "where and the bolts?" and "what the hell is the UIM?".

just some sugestions. Here's my list on write ups i'm going to do.

MSD ignition howto
s4 engine swap into a gsl-se
how to turbo a n/a motor
porting 6 ports and 4 port motors
suspension, what you need and the differences out there
turbos, how do i figure out what turbo is good for me
MegaSquirt ecu build
13b engine rebuild
how to choose what oil to use
how to choose what oct gas to use and what the oct rating means
puting a 2gen power steering pump on a gsl-se
heat coating the intake.
The proper TB mod and why not to just remove the warmer.
What is backpreasure and whats it good for
How to build your own big brake kit.

I guess i have my work cut out for me, big time. I got to make all those write ups, built the computer, put the OS on it and secure the server, get it conencted, register a domain, build the site, then throw the content on it. and learn more CSS so it looks neat

It's gona be a month or 2 long project. i'm always open for ideas on the design aspect. Start either emailing me or posting your FAQ's here my email is jchangstrom@inebraska.com.

We need a domain name, I was thinking something list midwestrotary.com or something like that. It's $15 to register the domain for a year so donations are welcome but not required

Everyone start getting their write ups done. Email them to me at jchangstrom@inebraska.com. Any format is good, i'll be converting i to php and css so fast access. please do no send them in html form. use MS word and make them for all i care. While i'm builting the site i'll just make a page in 30 seconds that says underconstrution but it'll have links to all the faqs.

i'll try to get the domain registered after i get the cpu built.

Here's a quickie for ya. Manual windows that are hard to roll up or down, use some brake cleaner (make sure it is one of the type that will not harm paint) and spray into the window regulator, thru the area the handle attachs. This will remove the years of dirt and grime that has gotten into the regulator, along with the original lube. After that is done, and has a few minutes to dry, use a light spray lube, and be amazed at how much easier the windows operate.

is anybody interested in a wikimedia site dedicated to rx-7s? essentially what that is is a collaborative web publishing system wherein articles can be posted by any member, and updates submitted all via a reasonably simple web interface.

if there's interest, i can look into registering a domain and setting up a site for that.

ok so i just spent about 30 mins on this. it's a basic look at how i was thinging of doing the site. before you click on the link i have a few things i must tell you. the computer that is hosting this is a very old 486. it's not even 100mhz. it's pretty sad so please be patient. also it's writen in mostley css so when you click on it it's gona take a few seconds on that server for the css to render because the the server is slow slow. THIS IS NOT THE SERVER THAT WILL BE HOSTING THE WEBSITE. It's temp so people can see what it's going to look like. The server is also at a company with a realy **** dsl connection with a 1536 kb / 384kb connection. so there isn't that must upload speed. becuase of this if we get a tone of people tring to check it out durring business hours it'll bring their connection the hault. so i ask that the webpage only be viewed after 6pm cst on weekdays and anytime on weekends. That should be fair enough and not crash their connection. That said i'm going to continue to update that and i'll let you know when i got more done. post your ideas about the site here. OOO wait i forgot. IE (internet Exploder) is crap and won't display the site becuase they dont' support css fully. IE 7 is going to be out soon and will support it. until then i encourage you view the site in Firefox. you can get it free at getfirefox.com. it's a small download and will block popups, spyware and other neat things. the feel and look is very similar to IE but firefox is better and faster. OK enough rambling here ya are

http://www.changstromco.com/rx7faq/

i will be monitoring the logs daily to see how many people visit it during the day when i asked that peolpe not look at. if their is a lot of that going on, (people looking at the site during the day on weekdays) then i will remove the site and update this post with screen shots until it's completed.

i like how the housing in the written part line up with the ones in the background adn then go bigger. the site should work out just fine in my opinion aslong as people start knowing about it it will be used on a dialy bases for poeple trying to do things makes it easier then just searching on this. Its narrows stuff down even more
