Walboro And S-AFC

I have a GSL-SE, and what i plan to do is the TII swap. But it wont happen until next driving season is over.

But my question is, Since i need to replace the fuel pump already, would it be wise to get a Walboro 255? I mean im going to need it for the TII swap anyways, so why not do it now? Also i want to get an S-AFC II for when i get my TII aswell as i dont want a full stand alone. So would it be wise to install these now, to just get a few extra horsepower? I mean im going to need them soon anyways right? Or is it even a smart idea to do?

Thanks,
Brandon.

No need for an AFC.
The TII is a metered type EFI system, well capable of adjusting for mods that fall within the air flow meters mechanical abilities.Thats in the range of 250-275HP,plenty of power for the light FB chassis.

The main concern is to provide enough fuel to match the increased boost levels that most intake and exhaust mods will achieve.A good fuel pump is the first step and the Walbro pump is up the task, albeit loud. There are probably other external EFI pumps out there that would work, but Im not the one to ask since I went with an internal pump setup using the FC holder and a SupraTT pump.A little more work, but its silent, protected and reliable.
The second fuel related mod should be slightly more fuel from the secondaries. The stock 550cc TII injectors are known to be adequate for a fair bit more power,as the stock EFI setup is tuned rich from the factory. But with a turbo engine,a little more fuel rarely hurts.True, running rich hurts peak HP,but I believe in not risking the engine when pumping things up,especially when your pushing the stock ECU/EFI towards its upper limits.
With my stock block/turbo S4 setup,I used 680cc secondaries and 550cc primaries with a peak boost about 13-14 psi with a screaming stock T-18 turbo. It ran fine and revved cleanly to redline with no fuel injection trickery, regulators or electronics,(besides the FCD to stock factory fuel cut).Power was roughly 250.

With my streetported S5 setup and TO4B hybrid,I run 800cc secondaries and 550cc primaries with a cooler, more calm 14psi max.I get the same smooth acceration and power delivery to redline with what is probably a little too much fuel. But Ive yet to EVER hear a ping, miss or sputter from the engine in 5 years. And again, thats with no input device trickery or controllers except the FCD.Current power is about 300,and is totally reliable and CA smog legal.

Im talking about installing them in my SE right now.

Steve, i'm very curious about this. i don't mind if you treat me like a retard because i've been milling over this for the last few months as i try to plan what to do about fuel for my car.

are you saying that you modified the FB to run an in-tank pump system? if so, can you give me a rundown of what i need to do? i'd like to get around having to run 2 pumps and some of the headache involved in duplicating some of the systems i've seen on some of the Gen I cars on this board.

thanks

Ive covered it in the past many times.I took an FC fuel pump holder and mounting rings and put them into an FB tank. They are exactly the right height and they all fit perfectly.
You have to clean out the FB tank completely so you can weld without danger.First you open up the hole in the FB tank to match the hole in the FC tank. Then, weld in the FC slosh baffle to the floor of the FB tank. Then, weld on the FC mounting rings for the fuel pump holder and vent to the top of the FB tank.Once that is done, the FC fuel pump assembely will bolt right in like stock. The FC pump itself is a conventional size/design and can be upgraded easily to an FD,Cosmo or SupraTT pump with no mods.
This setup exactly duplicates the factory FC pump system and provides cooling and protection for the pump,as well as being quiet and compact. Those are the main reasons why most factory pumps are in-tank mounted. This route will also save you from having to track down the elusive SE tank, since it can be performed on any FB fuel tank.
