Volvo rear end??
Volvo rear end??
I just measured my Volvo 240s rear end, and it is roughly 60 inches wide tire to tire. My SA is about 58 tire to tire. I know it's not the most accurate was to measure... but I'm thinking it would be a viable swap with the right offset rims. The Volvo 240s and 740s have Dana 30s or 33s in them available in limited slip or locked, and they all have disc brakes. I imagine there are quite alot of gearing options for the Dana rear ends seeing as how they came in jeeps, and various other vehicles. There is I've heard they can handle quite a bit of abuse.
They are potentially a lot stronger than any rear ends that the SA/FB came with stock, and there are more gearing options. I don't know that I am definitely doing the swap but it should be relatively simple as long as it doesn't need to be shortened. Just cut off the old mounting brackets, and weld on some new ones that work with the FBs suspension.

im gonna go ahead and guess since volvos are built like a brick, the rear end is fairly substantially heavy....Weight does matter with the limited HP options our cars have.
2 inches roughly, difference is huge. Now you need completely custom suspension mounts or basically a custom volvo rear end which defeats the entire purpose imo

Well the limited HP option is kind of being resolved with a Chevy 350... which I'm sure is going to give your attitudes a complete 180. Maybe now you'll assume I'm not an idiot who has wildly unrealistic Ideas about cars. The rear end swap would not be that difficult. The drive shaft would be the easiest part of the swap.
I thought about this too. I was just satasfied with my current (stock) rear end. If you were to do this I recomend frakenstiening it. Parts will be beeded from at least the stock suspension and the volvo suspension, and that will be the most cost effective way to make it all work.
Also you guys should check out the volvo p1800. Some rear end parts from there might be of your interest. Parts can still be purchased for p1800s online, and they have a nice 3link pan-hard setup in them.

I'm not setting any time lines for this car... because they are NEVER met(especially when you're married with children.) I really want to get creative with this car without having to spend the big bucks. It will be a while, but I'm documenting the entire build.
I have a 760 turbo i have acquired for free from a family member, it died in my driveway when he cam e to visit, just a bad alt. ill recieve one soon, motors are great IMO can make amazing power too. that would be an FB that no one has done.
I don't have a rotary engine. The motor was blown when I got the car, and I didn't feel like spending the money to rebuild it and not get the results I wanted. Besides, nobody wanted this car. It was going to be turned into a coke can.
