Ill go slap the hood on the car tonite, and see how close it gets, Id like to have some sort of a cowl hood, but I dont like the inward bend thing. I want something that humps up and vents by the windshield, a more conviential design if you will..

you mean american hotrod conventional. there aren't many imports i've seen with cowls. they usually use heat vents like this hood, ala mitsubishi lancer.

Then I will either 1) cut the bracing out of mine, 2) use one of his standard fiberglass hoods

I dont like water all over everything when I would drive in the rain...

if the vent is moved up then everything is good. my vent just catches part of the dizzzy. the rest is straight to the ground, maybe catching the pulleys a touch. unfortunately that is where your airfilter sits.

scoop, cowl or vent? the vent will only really have water come down through it at standstill. cowl will see a touch of water if open in the back but otherwise no. a scoop will pull in water at anything moving forward if lipped properly.

It will be a couple weeks on the valance...I am busy with work and lining things up to go to 7stock. I understand about the hood thing....no problem! And yes, most of the old IMSA race cars had the engines lowered but it takes extensive fab work!!!!(not worth it for a street car). Price.......not sure yet but in the $125-150 range????not really sure until it is made.

No prob. I think I am going to move the vent forward anyway........I really didnt even consider the rain problem, my car never sees rain! So, I know I need to move it to atleast drain between the rad. and the front of the motor???

And because the fan cowl and clutchfan take up so much of the space between rad and engine, ideally the rad would be angled like a 2nd gen with an alectric fan or two. However, asking hood customers to reconfigure their engine bays to accomodate a vented hood, no matter how slick, is a tougher sell.

Actually, was looking at angling everything like that at some point on my street Rex. Was wondering where the oil cooler goes then, though... how do the 2nd Gens do it? And also could I just gank a rad and oil cooler from one of those? Anything beats the damn water/oil dingus on there now.

I must say though... with the vent right in front of the engine like that... I'll buy one in a second. Wel... given the money to do so... and I suppose getting Seska (agh, I know, I name my cars) running first sort of takes priority. I like it though.

Mike, on that white 3 rotor AE mariah 2ed gen, it has a
cowl hood that is also vented on the sides by the back
looks good and functions too. i don't know if you know the one i mean. but it's pretty bad-*** IMO...
Yeah man.. the vent, placed where water won't ocean
the engine/dizzy/etc..is better all around design and
will work no matter what engine ( just about) is installed
and will clear a strut bar too. if the vent were to be molded into the hood at the start it would turn out very
clean, instead of cutting the vent later, of course produce a plain hood too , that would cover all the bases. in the vents place some mesh or screen to keep
out the critters, leaves, hands, and whatnot. IMO
here's 2 drawings if it helps you out.

My favorite 1st gen hood is a 1st gen with a TII hood scoop. I plan on making one when I do a TII swap in my car. That way I can also use the stock TII intercooler. here is some pics...

another...

I also want that mariah air dam. That car is sweet.....

Ok,
Looks like I am going to be making 3 diff. hoods out of fiberglass and CF.....stock, Turbo 2 scoop, and the "vent". The vent is the next hood to be done as you can see in the beginning of this thread. I am in the process of moving the vent opening closer to the rad. It will probably be well into the fall before the turbo hood is ready

I am still working on the stock hood latch working on the hoods not sure on the finish date on this, if at all?

I need some sales of the stock fiberglass hood to keep this moving forward......in the beginning there were tons of people wanting this...now no one is interested....what happened?? I should have a CF stock hood ready by the first of next week.......anyone? I will sell my first CF stock hood for $275 plus shipping....anyone?

I have 2 stock fiberglass hood setting here now.....$215 plus shipping....anyone?

Nobody buying,,huh ?? Me,, i wouldn't buy a hood
fiberglass or carbon fiber without being able to touch
and see it first. but thats just me.. Maybe take a bunch
of pictures of the finished products ,,, top, underneath,
on a car, different views. You may have to bite the bullet and drop the price's some to move'em. people need to see how they fit. because you know how people are about there cars,,,,right ? IMO

I have a few pics out in some of the other threads. Problem with putting it on my car is that the fenders are just hanging, I am making my own wide fenders so there is nothing to compare to.

I sold one to one of the guys who drag races for RX7.com in a 1st gen all motor class. I am hoping it gets in some magazines soon. His car is bright yellow if you happen to see it.

PS - I'll be out in plano about all weekend for that hotair baloon festival. I'll bring your springs by. I promise!

-edit- Anyone know about UV protecting the CF hood? Who/what/where/how much? I want to leave it the plain CF exposed... Should look great w/ the wheels and on the gray car...

Sounds good on the springs!

That festival is practically in my back yard......it is awsome at dawn on Sat morn.!!!

Any automotive clear coat is UV.....DuPont.....cant think of any other brands right now. Just go to Finish Masters, they can let you know what to use.

Everyone is waiting for you to turn out the exact hood they want, you need to either simplify your product line or special make each hood according to the wants of each customer.
