vented hood pics
I'm al ittle pissed off - I was busy with a million things today, so I told the glasser "Gut the vents and put the hood on the car - I'll have Darren take some pics to show the guys in the forum".
I get home and Darren has sent me some pics. The glasser cut vents all right, but left thick borders around them so they're tiny and look like ***. He laso took me literally, just setting the hood on the car, so it's popped up, not sitting flush like it should.
So I chewed him out and hope to have better pics with proper vent cuts and mounting on Friday (tomorrow is a holiday). Until then, something to tide you over:

and yes, the car under the tarp in pic 1 is the wreckage of Pamela
This is the new vent design which will fit stock airboxes, aftermarket strut tower bars, etc.

manntis, I've been following this from way back when you first talked about it (or at least i think it was when you were first toying with the idea) and to see it finally come together is awesome. Unfortunatly, like many others on this forum, I am low in funds. Also like many on the forum I will "some day" have funds. Right now I'm a jr. at lehigh university, so hopefully "some day" will be in about a year and a half. Assuming you are still making the hoods then, you can chalk me down for getting one. Very impressive.
and I thought makeing a custom sub box was something to be proud of

yup - FRP is $299 (a bit more with vents precut & grilles provided), the soon-to-be-available carbon fibre skinned model (with FRP underlay and substructure) should be about $499

And of course, here comes Jon to ask a stupid question..
What exactly is the benefit of the rearward-facing vents? Is it an airflow thing? (something like air coming from the front/under the bumper, through the rad and fan, out the vents?)
And with the vents as they are, where is water going to run when it rains? I'm not sure just by looking at these pics, but it looks to me as if the driver's side one would lead water straight onto the alternator.... Of course that's probably just my bad eyes, but I thought I'd ask.
I think the hood (even in it's rough state, and just lying there) looks awesome. I think it's great that you've put so much work into this project and it's finally nearing release. I can't wait to see more, and look forward to the day where I'll have the moulah to add one to my car. I'm not sure what kind of purpose/improvement it will serve on my car, but it would look totally baddass yet somehow fit right in with the "stock" look I'm going for if I had it painted K3 Sunbeam Silver like the rest of my '84
The gov't let you buy back the wreckage of Pam? That's cool, at least she's still around in some way. I'm sure there are plenty of parts still left in good condition which could give your next car some renewed life and let the spirit of Pam live on

And before anyone says "yeah, but this water is going on the top of the engine!" - it isn't. Go pop your hood and look... really look... at how far back our engines sit. Then consider the huge openings in the hoods of rally cars, the open vents in the hoods of street cars including my Chrysler Daytona Turbo, and you'll see it's really not an issue.

Now that we have the subframe designed, we're experimenting with different thicknesses to get the optimum balance between looks, rigidity, and weight.
