vacuum question

my car wont idle its an 84 gl. i was sparying the carburator and the rest nest and every time i hit one of the tubes or metal thing on the rats nest the idle went up. what does that mean? could that be affecting the idle? also i took the cap and rotor off and it is severely worn. im about to get new plugs and rotor and cap and see if that helps it. any suggestions?

That means it is a vacuum leak. Replace the hose and your done. And yes it has everything to do with the idle.

If the cap and rotor are worn out then they need replacement period. But your idle problem is your vacuum leak.
