Vacuum Lines on Nikki Carb?

1982 12a, stripping rats nest

I recieved the car with carb in pieces in a box. I am attempting to put everything back together but need help.

I took the carb apart being careful cleaning everything inside like the jets and passages.,

I did some of the Nikki Strip modifications but I still want to retain the Choke (It gets cold here in minnesota) and the Vacuum Secondary for right now. I don't think I need anything else like altitude correction. I don't know where some of these vacuum lines go or if it really even matters where they go.

So here is how it looks from both sides right now

I will be putting on a RB header eventually. I know this will change the way the air flows and A/F ratio. What, if anything, should I do to the carb?

I decided to keep the altitude compensator on one of the first Nikkis I ever stripped. I also kept the choke and one of the vacuum diaphram things attatched to the shaft as you can see in the picture. Its hose hose is still connected to the carb at the baseplate. Also seen in the picture is a small spring connecting the choke shaft to the fast idle linkage. You can also use a twist tie up there. You'll see how it works mechanically once you take off the bulky complicated choke stuff. Oh and take a hack saw to the choke bracket so you can keep the little piece that fits below the throttle cable return spring bracket. This retains alignment so all three screws still work.

Then look at the accel pump extension. This is something you don't need right now if you keep vacuum secondaries. But you may want to experiment with it like I did here.

The results were mixed. As you can tell by the date of the posts, I didn't know much about Nikkis back then. I'd also ignore the jet size I used (95) as it turns out too rich and would make the spark plugs black with carbon; something to avoid.

You will also need to mod your intake manifold as shown. ACV block off plate, cut a channel to mimic the other side and remove the shudder valve. There are some holes and fittings that need to be blocked off like the anti-afterburn nipple and stuff.

As for the RB header, the carb will flow more air and use slightly more fuel. Now the fuel pump and fuel filter suddenly become important.

It's a journey, not a destination. You're at the beginning. I suggest doing a lot of searches of my recent material about how to boost prep a carb and chose which mods make sense to you. Obviously you're keeping the vacuum secondaries so a lot of the secondary tuning info will not apply to you. Also consider getting a wideband because it takes a lot of the guess work out.
