V6 Mustang Vs My 7

Freaking crap... Not feeling so well. I decide to go to work early today and there is this convertable new body style mustang next to me racing his engine while he is ahead of me in the lane next to me (2 lane highway). He's got his music blasting and a custom plate that said "V6" something. When he reved his engine it sounded like a fart can on a honda. He had the sickeningly blue headlights. It was the most riced out stang I have seen.

I looked down and saw 1 muffler.... and saw the plate said V6... and said this dude is toast. I started reving my engine as well but the guy didnt want to slow down for a rolling start race. Finally the guy gets my point as I was slowing down the right lane to clear some running room. He slows down and we go on 4 beeps. The dude stayed side by side with me for about a half mile. I really couldnt tell whether I took him or he took me because I was so suprised he kept up so well.

Man I thought it would be a walk in the park... maybe I'm badly tuned and I dont know it. Doesnt feel like it to my butt dyno. I have the recommended jets for my mikuni running the right pressure with full RB exhaust and header with 2nd gen coil timing off set 24 16... I have my freaking NOS (nitrous but yes NOS...) kit sitting in my garage... but I'm to scarred to push my baby to far...

The 4.0 liter V6 in the newer model mustang sends a lot of power to the rear wheels: 210 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque.

I'd say if you stuck with him you did just fine.

The newest body style, I think.

One of my friends thinks that his Mom's v6 mustang runs 14.1's in the 1/4, although I really doubt that.

They're in the low 15's. Even the previous model with the 3.8l weren't a slouch either. Look out for the older style Z34 Luminas and Monte carlos, the got some get up and go too. LOL! ANd i hate to say it, but Z24 Cavaliers with the older 2.4l twin cam... 0-60 in the 7sec range.... that'll keep up with ya.

I didn't know that...I've "raced" a few of the older and one new one in my 240, and beat all of them. It runs about a 15.3 1/4.

The new one stayed fairly close with me though, but the old ones were toast.

I was consoled by a cobra owner that was telling me that the v6's have a crap load of after market mods that really make them move out... He said stock they are comprable to the older 5.0's

and whats said above makes me feel better as well....

aws140... It was the new style body.

Stock 5.0's are dogs in nearly all respects.
The new 6 cylinders are nothing to scoff at,HP numbers these days are all climbing without an end in site,so its no wonder a 30 year old car has trouble hanging in there.
The only recent Mustang a stockish 1st gen could dispatch with ease would be the lowely 2.3L 4 banger with its 99HP and highway gears......SVO turbo Stang's not included, of course!

any idea how much HP your pushing. i have an 84 gsle-se that is street ported and has a holey 600 with full racing beat exhaust from headers to midsection on back, 89 GTU rotors and MSD 6AL ignition with a dual friction centerforce clutch. i have never dynoed it and to tell you the truth i never challenged anyone due to the fact that i am actually scared of loosing to something i think i can beat after dumping soo much money into the damn thing. i used to own an FD and got beat by some freaking JETTA, god damn i was embarrased.

Yeah the new V-6's aren't slouches. It uses the same motor that's in the Ranger. My dad has an 07 Ranger with the 4.0 and a 5-Speed and that thing moves. With it in 2 wheel drive it'll brake the tires loose if you aren't carefull.

I'm taking my freaking Mikuni sticker off.

Yes I admit it. I had some rice cravings and they gave me the sticker with my master rebuild kit. I rebuilt it right and I was proud of it.

Now everyone wants to race me because of a sticker they probably know nothing about.

I'm shelving the nitrous for now.

I'm not sure how much HP I'm pushing but considering I'm stock port and did all I could do bolt-on... from what I read I'm prolly < 150. The stuff I did is in my sig.

Need to just enjoy my ride and stop freaking around so much. I just got everything tuned to the point where she is feeling so good... running smooth... and feeling strong.... Just need to remove that freaking sticker....

Well, the new mustangs are pretty quick, according to numbers, but they don't feel that quick to drive IMO. I test drove a new mustang V6 with the pony package and I was COMPLETELY turned off to it. The car drove as if it was a big crown vic, and the engine was very dissappointing. I enjoyed driving my sisters 98 V6 much more than the hunk of **** their making now. It just looks good, doesn't perform or feel the way it should.

On a side note, the average 4cyl car these days has at least 150hp, with the exception of subcompacts, and even they don't dip much below 120hp. The average family car has enough power to spank even a full bolt on 1st gen, I think average for those is around 250hp now. Not bad IMO. Hell, even my 07 Ram Hemi 4x4 at 5500lb has enough power to keep up with my S4 NA swapped RX-7 without the turbo, and the hemi is only getting about 270hp to the rear wheels, 345 flywheel.

youd smoke the stang hands down at auto-x. they handle like a wet noddle thats why i own an rx7 much more fun on the twisties and much more predictable in the corners. the stangs rearends like to move sids to side while cornering.

Why bother racing against other dipshits? To me, this car is an indulgence. I don't care how fast or how slow the next idiot is. I enjoy my 7 and will savor every twisty road I come across. Who cares what times you're making? As long as you're happy cruising in your 7, isn't that what matters most?

I don't mean to threadjack, but twinkletoes, your signature is funny as hell.

And, I believe the new Rustangs weigh in at around 3-something.

what's fun is to argue that a stock rx-7 fb can beat a nissan 350Z, or a mustang , and they think you are serious
