Ups and Downers or 1st gen

First of all let me say that I love 1st gens, i drive one every day. Next I wanna say that this is my first drunken post, and I am all emotional about my RX because another drunk guy complimented it.

I love the 1st gens styling, when I walk up on my car from a front 3/4 or rear 3/4 view I can barely resist running up and hugging my car.

I hate how stuff is awlays breaking, today i have to go scavenge a new bushing for my idler arm. boo! hisss! that blows.

I love how the cockpit fits you like a glove, it wraps around you and tells you that now matter how wild the automovie hooliganism gets you will always be able to reach the controls.

I hate how it is carbed, i want fuel injection dammit!

I love the feel of the shifter, yes it slides into gear nicely, even after 170,000 miles.

In conclusion, I love you, you are better and less wakcy than women, i love you RX-7.

I love my 7. I finally got it running last weekend after owning it for 4-5 months. Even when it wasn't running, I would go out and just sit in the drivers seat and flip through the gears. I knew it wasn't running, but I was still happy just being in my little sports car. I LOVE my Scion tC, it is the best car I have ever owned. But there is just something different about the 7. It has a history, it has style, it has something very few other cars have (rotary engine) and a slew of other things that makes me love this car just as much as the other.

Thansenite hit it on the head, the car you love isn't about how fast it is or how hard it can corner, those are just bonuses.

Be a man, drive a car that is a legend, not some flashy piece of plastic.

I think we need to make computers with breathelizer to turn them on like the whole new car system stuff ... some people should step away from the computer when they're drunk ... none the less it was a great story lol

Exactly. This is kind of an extension of my previous post above. For me, sitting in my 7 is euphoric. Ever since I knew what an RX-7 was, I have wanted one.

Late last summer, I began looking for a 7 because I had never driven one. I found one sitting not more than a mile from where I worked. I went and looked at it and the guy told me it didn't run, but would sell it for $200. I called the fiance and told her and to my surprise, she didn't get mad. I ended up buying the car.

I would make the 4 hour round trip about every weekend for 4 months to my parents to work on my car. I would spend hours tinkering with the carb and wiring trying to get it to work. Most of the time I was unsuccessful. However, no matter how disheartened I was, I would always sit in the drivers seat for a while before I would go inside and just imagine how it must feel to drive. My anger at the carb would melt away knowing that "someday", I wouldn't have to imagine anymore.

That day came last weekend when it finally fired up. I found out it had no brakes (except the e-brake) and would only rev to 4,500 rpms. That didn't stop me and the 10 degrees below zero temperature outside didn't either. It was dark, but I still drove it. In my 8 mile maiden voyage, it died twice before I figured out to pull out the choke a bit while coming to a stop. It was great.

I have a brand new car waiting for me when I get off work every day that is reliable, warm, quiet, and very nice looking....but I still spend my work week waiting for the weekend to come so I can drive home to play with my RX-7. I may be sick, I may be sad, it doesn't matter how much aggrivation that car causes me, I still get a smile when I sit behind the wheel.
