Ugh, what order do metal plate, shifter boot, and carpet go in?

I can't remember. I have a new rubber boot for the shifter (bottom-most boot)... Do I slide it between the metal plate and carpet, do I install everything on top of the carpet, or do I tuck metal plate and rubber boot under the carpet? I feel like the metal plate is supposed to go on top of the rubber boot base, I just can't figure out if I should install it all over the carpet or tuck it under the carpet...

On my SA its bottom-to-top: rubber-plate-carpet. So, plate holds rubber, carpet on top of everything....

Yep. The boot goes between the floorpan and the plate, like a gasket. Carpet goes on top. Otherwise, the boot doesn't get a watertight seal.
